It's not Old Rag - but a fun hike through a short rock scramble. You can make a loop out of this hike with the AT trail.

We are from the Midwest and do a lot of flat hiking trails, so the opportunity to do a rock scramble was very unique. We all agreed that it was the best hike ever. The views are amazing. I would not attempt to do the trail if the rocks are wet and slippery. We did take our 11 and six-year-old... More

The hike is short, but involves a bit of rock climbing. Make sure you are in good shape and have good balance. The 360 degree view is breathtaking.

It's a shorter version of old rag trail, which is one of my favorite all time hikes. The scrambling section isn't too difficult, very well marked and at a good pace will get your blood flowing. You don't need to pack anything since it's such a short hike but I'd recommend taking lunch or staying for sunset to spend time... More

I love this hike! My daughter asks to do this every year. The rock scramble is fun, but not for out of shape or people scared of heights. There is one section I have to take very slow and boost my daughter up because hand grips and foot holds are a little tricky. And a little unnerving even for an... More

The walk to the falls is very pretty and the view when you get there is worth the walk. The walk back from the falls is more difficult, but as long as you take your time, you will be fine.

Short, sweet and fun. I'd recommend using both hands and feet for the rock scramble, but can be done carrying a dslr. I had beautiful weather. Trail is well marked with blazes, particularly for the scramble. Anyone can do it. Just take your time and you may surprise yourself. I can also see how those with too much confidence end... More

My mother and I had an amazing hike at Bearfence! The parking is located across the street (Skyline Drive) from the trail head. There's a mild rock scramble or a less strenuous path to get to summit; we certainly enjoyed our rock scramble and our view! This is a relatively short hike from start to finish and crosses the AT... loved the rock scrambling bits! Very short hike but great fun! Might be a little unnerving for people with vertigo issues. I do not care much for heights but did it just fine.

We had the trail and the summit to ourselves to watch the sunset. The ascent is steep from the trailhead, but the view from the top is so worth it. The sunset was SPECTACULAR!
