Not my favorite hike, lots of open...sun beating down on you walking. Too much horse dung on the trail.

Yes, petrified wood is cool and there were a few good views and a few big pieces to walk around. But we had been driving in the area and saw other great views. And beware of so called "museums" at the entrance (we did the...More

There are not many opportunities to see large deposits of petrified wood so this hike is worth it if you are interested in seeing some. As others have said, just getting to the trail is an adventure on dirt roads, especially if they are wet....More

I did this hike right at sunrise, and it was beautiful. I feel like most of the elevation gain is right at the beginning, and it levels out a bit quickly. It's really cool, but it can get a little monotonous with the exception of...More

I hiked the entire Petrified Forest Loop, which comes to approximately 10 miles and includes a section of the Maah Daah Hey trail. The actual petrified forest areas are other worldly and a must see. I encountered Pronghorns and Bison while hiking the Maah Daah...More

You have to leave the park to get there, and it's a bit confusing, but it is well worth the drive to get there. Petrified wood is cool and all that, but this is probably one of the most scenic parts of the park and...More

Definitely recommend doing this early in the morning before the heat of the day. Take water and dress for hiking. Walk is strenuous in parts but mostly flat.

This was a great hike despite a scorching hot day. The only issue is that there is one place early in the hike where the trail is not clear. Go left a bit and you will see the wooden pole up on the hill. Once...More

This is a great drive through with walking trails national park. If you have limited mobility, there are plenty of petrified pieces to see from the car. If you don't mind an easy walk you can get right up to the pieces. It is amazing!

I hiked out to the north Petrified Forest with my 1.5 year old son in a backpack carrier. On the hike in, we saw a bison and a feral horse. We stopped at the Petrified Forest for 45 minutes or so. There was a nice...More
