I hiked the entire Petrified Forest Loop, which comes to approximately 10 miles and includes a section of the Maah Daah Hey trail. The actual petrified forest areas are other worldly and a must see. I encountered Pronghorns and Bison while hiking the Maah Daah...More

You have to leave the park to get there, and it's a bit confusing, but it is well worth the drive to get there. Petrified wood is cool and all that, but this is probably one of the most scenic parts of the park and...More

Definitely recommend doing this early in the morning before the heat of the day. Take water and dress for hiking. Walk is strenuous in parts but mostly flat.

This was a great hike despite a scorching hot day. The only issue is that there is one place early in the hike where the trail is not clear. Go left a bit and you will see the wooden pole up on the hill. Once...More

This is a great drive through with walking trails national park. If you have limited mobility, there are plenty of petrified pieces to see from the car. If you don't mind an easy walk you can get right up to the pieces. It is amazing!

Traveling back east and we were pleasantly surprised that the park was right off the interstate. We took a detour and added a visit to the park where we were not disappointed. Great views including beautiful fall colors and lots of wildlife sightings. Did the...More

Did a quick hike to the north petrified forest (about 4 miles round trip). The drive to the trail head was 6 miles on a dirt round and through cattle pastures, had to maneuver around cows on the road at times. There was plenty of...More

This is a nice loop. I preferred hiking through other sections of the park as the views don't change much during large sections of this loop. We did see a lot of Bison which was good and bad since we had to detour off the...More

A couple tour books made it sound like one would have to do a full day hike to see the Petrified Forest. The full loop is a long hike (and I wish we'd had time to hike the entire loop!) but you can do a...More
