This Mesa is a wonderful example of A geological phenomenon. Appears it is made up of Navajo sandstone. The checkerboard patterns are a result of thousands of years wind patterns. Very neat to sww

Nature is amazing...they call it a checkerboard and that is what it looks like, however there are many more squares in that rock than on a checkerboard !!!!

Yes, it's interesting, but the real cause of these odd looking striations in the rock is ancient blowing sand dunes that blew into lays in multiple directions, then were compressed and eroded for us to enjoy millions of years later!

We stopped and looked and thought what is the fuss? I mean it is cool, but the other scenery around the area is so much better. There is a great little pull out stop to park & get out, if your looking for a stop.

The checkerboard Mesa was amazing. It is powerful and beautiful. This ride is really spiritual. You are amazed with the beauty of nature and all those rocks.

Love Love Love Zion NP. As soon as we entered into the park, I was wide eyed and could believe how beautiful everything was. We will return.

The geographic features here are amazing. The colors and markings on this part of the mountains are very unique.
