You get a really great view of Checkerboard Mesa on your way into Zion on the Mt. Carmel Hwy. There is also a pullover so that you can take in the view and get some pictures. I got a great shot right through the windshield!

...and hope that a busload of tourists has not just disembarked at the same time as you. This vista is on the road between Bryce and Zion and well worth a jump out of the car for a five minute photo opportunity.

Checkerboard Mesa was quite a unique site along the Mt. Carmel Highway. Worth a stop for a photograph.

There are easy pull-offs to park and easy walks to take in the Checkerboard area. Not for strollers or wheelchairs though.

The drive through the park to get here is just as pretty as the checkerboard mesa formation. We saw big horned sheep on the way here.

There are better places but if you travel on the 13 mile Mt Caramel road you might as well stop to see this landmark

Very cool to see while driving to the visitor's center. Definitely worth it to stop and get a closer look and take some pictures.

The Checkerboard Mesa is an interesting geological formation and landmark located on Highway 9 through Upper East Canyon, around 1 mile from the Zion National Park East Entrance. Here you will see sandstone hills with grid-like crack patterns that resemble checkerboards. There is a car...More

When you stop and take in these sights, it makes you realize that you are insignificant in the grand scheme of things. The entire park is laid out perfectly
