Very similar to a nightmarket, I liked that it had some sort of ceiling though as it was raining but I stayed dry the whole time. SO MUCH FOOD! food is definitely the attribute here, there's dim sum, beef noodle soup, taro, shaved ice cream, fried mushrooms (so good), seafood, sausages, pastries, and lots of things I couldn't identify. Went... More

Your trip to Taiwan will certainly be incomplete if you did not visit this gem! it is a place full of culture, and wonderful picturesque views to match. Think of it as the Monaco of the east! Walk along the famous old street at Jiufen and be mesmerised by the beauty of the surroundings.

This city is full of old city atmosphere, nice tea house. Drinking hot tea in tea house with friend was unforgettable memories. This city is not too far away from Taiwan. However i suggest to stay one night to enjoy night walk and also last bus is only available until late evening only. Taking taxi at night is costly.

Cheap chinese junk mixed with a bit of authentic Taiwan snack cuisine. Restaurants close early. The shrimp-balls at entry to street (mountain end) are a great snack.

Is a good and interesting shopping old street. But the road not easy to walk might be difficult for some old folk. Very crowded. If sunny day think will be quite stuffy and hot inside.

I am a fan of "Spirited away". So Jiufen was in my plan at start. I took the bus #1062 from Taipei. The bus stop is closed to MRT Songshan Station and the ride is approx. 52 mins. Jiufen is on the mountain. The narrow streets are crisscrossing through the mountain. Weekend is very crowded. I could not even walk.... More

My daughter asked to be brought here because she wanted to see the place of inspiration for spirited away. It was about an hour bus ride from Taipei. We were taken to a hill top where houses and shops are located in different levels of the hill sides. The area where there are shops and eateries are full to the... More

This place has a nice rustic feel. Walking through the narrow streets is definitely a squeeze but find a teahouse (there are several) and time suddenly slows. Take the time to enjoy the view while sipping a hot pot of tea. We did not choose one of the popular teahouses, which was great because where we were was quiet and... More

I loved walking around the ancient alleys of Jiufen. The streets are filled with unique souvenir shops, tea houses, restaurants and antique shops. It's very reminiscent of old Taiwan and there's never a shortage of interesting things to see.It could be a bit tiring since some of the alleys require you to climb stairs but it was an enjoyable experience nonetheless. The scenery at the...
