Yingge, with a 200-year history in pottery, is one of the earliest settlements of Taiwan, thus earning the reputation of “Taiwan’s Jingdezhen”. Constructed with exposed concrete and steel structures, the Yingge Ceramics Museum is a landmark presenting rustic beauty. Walk into Yingge Old Street and feel the pieces of brick and tiles lightly emitting a historical and cultural atmosphere. Stroke the potteries to sympathize with the hundred-year-old artistic essence by aged masters. Reputed as the hall of eastern art, “Sanxia Zushi (Divine Ancestor) Temple is a temple built with an ancient technique. The groups of bygone architectures and baroque-style plaques of Sanxia Old Street still retain their former self. Once known as Sanjiaoyong street, Minquan street used to be the gathering grounds of the once-prosperous cloth dying industry. The Sanxia Dye Workshop was established to keep the blue-dye culture from disappearing. The most intricate stone carving architectural building I've ever seen. A true masterpiece of craftsmanship.

This temple is an architectural masterpiece, but it has taken many years of patient work to restore it to its former glory. . The temple combines elements of Sung and Tang dynasty architecture. The temple honours the memory of Chen Chao-ying, a deified Tang dynasty patriot who fought against the Mongol conquerors of China more than 600 years ago. The temple is a monument to traditional Chinese craftsmanship.

This temple is one of the four famous ChingShui Monk Temples!
First built in 1767, private teaching was giving in 1813. First renovated after earthquake in 1833, 2nd renovation was done in 1899 from wreckage by Japanese.
1947 started another renovation after World War II.
People warships ChingShui Monk because he had so many good deeds before and after his passing!
This one in SanXia as same as others has incredible stone, wood carving! That is part of why people must preserve the landmark as well as its history.

There are only two types of visitors here - those who are here to worship or those who are here for the architecture. Be one of these two.

Tsu Shi Temple is a temple which is located near Sanxia Old Street. Since Sanxia is a small town, it is very easy to find. What is remarkable is the decoration of this temple. Sculptures on columns are just admirable.

This is absolutely one of the most beautiful temples in Taiwan. If you happen to be in Taipei, make the day trip to see this temple. There is a lot of detail in the carvings all over the building and you can combine this with Sansia old street.

This temple is famous for its architecture and a lot of Japanese like to sightsee and watch it very closely. Actually, different to most temples in Taiwan , the sculptures are very sophisticated and detailed. The poles, the roof and in between all are very beautifully done. It is indeed, a master piece and should be kept well and forever.

The Tourist Information desk at Taipei Main Station wrote out which platform and train number to catch to get to Yingge. Train ride took about 30 mins and 5 or 6 stops, very easy & cheap to pay with my Easycard.

Caught a taxi outside the Yingge train station to Sanxia Old Street, approx $8 Aus & took 15 minutes. Asked my hotel reception staff to write both towns & temple in Chinese, so very easy to show the taxi driver.

There is a small but colourful temple at the beginning of Sanxia Old Street, but the main Zushi Temple is down a side street, plenty of signage.

The temple roof decorations are a little bit faded, but still stunning. I particularly like the dragons. Famous artist Li Meishu spent over 30 years carving the beautiful stone pillars and other artworks. Plenty of worshippers so just had to be respectful & wait to take photos. Ornate & colourful ceilings.

Courtyard at front of temple has circular seats around 2 large trees, very enjoyable to just sit, return smiles with the locals & take in the view. There is a bakery that sells the local horned pastries, cheap & tasty snack. Also other food vendors lining the street, tried the caramelised sweet potato, delicious.

Spent about 1 1/2 hours at the temple, then wandered down Sanxia Old St, plenty of shops & bakeries, but oddly, no where to buy bottled water. Ended up buying a bottle from the florist.

Very hard to find a taxi to take me back to Yingge, a kind stinky tofu vendor called a taxi for me, but when it didn't arrive, arranged for his friend/family member to drive me, same price as taxi. I found Taiwanese people are always happy to help you if they can.
There is a bus between towns but didn't know where to catch it. Should have looked that up first.

This temple is a little out of the way, but worth it. Possible the best temple I visited while in Taiwan and the locals are helpful & kind. A wonderful trip.
