Quite a touristy area. We visited on a rainy sunday afternoon and it was still crowded, especially on the railroad track. A lot of stalls selling souvenirs and snack food. I bought a bag of cheese waffles shaped like bears (quite tasty for 50 NTD)....More

This place is know to fly lanterns with your wishes on it, but I don't think the people see or saw where the lanterns land. I didn't light or buy one because of the environmental concerns I had and truly, these lanterns fall on top...More

It is interesting to see people releasing sky lanterns over the train tracks at this place. Probably good photo opportunities as well. It was raining on the day I visited, so my friend and I didn't bother releasing any sky lanterns since the pictures wouldn't...More

To me, jiufen and shifen are must-go tourist spots. If you have time, stay one night in jiufen to enjoy it in the dusk and night when it's less crowded and travel to shifen the next day early morning before the crowd hits. The two...More

Popularized for the floating lanterns and the trail leading to the Shifen Waterfalls. Flight of the wish lantern costs around NTD100-NTD200. Preserved old street but modern stores and resturants are also built along the rail side. Try the authentic dumplings, stuffed chicken, and street foods....More

Many people will come here to release sky lantern as culture activity in Taiwan. Excluded thus activity, nothing much to do. Just a few shop selling souvenir and snacks a side the railway.

One of Taiwan's must-do's for tourists. It's a beautiful sight and a great experience. What isn't so nice is the crowd! If you plan to go here, check that there isn't a public holiday - the train was packed! Or take a bus, or better...More

Beautiful train station and railway where people sends off their sky lantern. It could be crowded at all times but the staff knows how to take care of your lanterns and help you with photo taking. each lantern is about 200NTD. A special activity to...More

The town is really unique in that the railway is actively running. The tracks provided for many great phototaking opportunities. However as we did not visit during a weekend, many of the food stores were closed. We visited after Jiufen, and found that Shifen was...More

We were a group of 5 and we took a cab from Taipei to Jiufen & Shifen. Our driver took us to Qintianggang grasslands, Yehliu and the two other attractions, all in a day. It was way more convenient and time saving.

Hi Donald, I agree if you find other place to stay, as Shifen itself is easily reached by train, which attraction is right by the train station. It's a nice place for 1-2 hour or so.
