About
Originally built by Grandmaster Manoel de Vilhena in 1724, the windmill has been beautifully restored to its original working order. It is now the only functioning windmill on the Maltese islands. You can visit the miller's workshop, the miller's family residence on the first floor and the fully functioning milling room at the very top of the windmill. Guided tours in various languages can be arranged on Saturdays and Sundays (mornings only) and by appointment during weekdays.

Beautifully restored

Very beautiful windmill. It opens 3 days a week for visit. Is it the only one in Malta in such a good state. The other one is in Gozo.

Beautifully well restored and curated windmill. It is worth visiting this windmill in Zurrieq since it is the only one of its kind in Malta.

This old Windmill is a great peace of architecture but unfortunately we didn't have time to venture inside.

Worth a visit but it will be a short trip

Windmill is well restored and there are some nice artifacts displayed. The building is small and, I suspect, would be a tight squeeze when busy.

We went out of season and few people there so was really nice trip.

It is however a small place and does not take long to complete the visit

If you go to the Ggantija temples, the entry to the windmill is included, which is nice. Only the windmill has shorter operating hours - last entry 16.30. Looks nice, though I didn't not get there in time to enter.

One of the most amazing windmills in Malta

Żurrieq is very popular for windmills, in fact there are at least 4 of them. ix-Xarolla is certainly the most popular of them all!

One of the last working windmills in Malta. It is a local and national treasure. Worth a visit and a stroll around the village.

interesting but not worth visiting when not open
Jul 2017 • Family
We were staying in Zurrieq and so it was easy for us to walk along and have a quick look. It is only open on Saturday and Sunday mornings and that did not suit us but we took a few photos and had a look.

I would not recommend travelling to visit outside of these opening times.
