What an incredible masterpiece...

We camped at Roan Mountain State Park in TN. Drive 8 miles up the mountain and WOW! On the TN/NC line we walked to the top of Round Bald (5400ish ft). We walked up 3 times over the week we were camping. It’s breathtaking. Right on the AT! We LOVED it and will return!

40 mile none stop hike. We started on the AT at Fontana Dam 4:30am and hiked 40.8 miles to newfound gap ending at 11:43 pm. I am 60 and my hiking partner is 65 but we train constantly for these kind of hikes. The hike was very exhilarating with some amazing views from Rocky Top and Thunderhead Mts. The trail from Clingmans dome to Newfound gap is very washed out and lots of large steps, 3 - 4 ft, that are difficult to navigate. Many boulder size rocks exposed in the trail make it hard on the ankles and knees. Good overall trip and will do it all again.
