Vast expanse of white sand, big waves and lots of place to pick a spot where you'll feel on your own to enjoy the views. Such a welcome change from the overcrowded beaches in southern algarve. Make sure you stay for sunset!

You drive to Carrapateira, a small village that feels like you have come to the very end of the Algarve full of surfers and laid back people. You drive about half a mile out of town before a sign for Bordeira beach appears, you arrive...More

Bordeira beach is for me one of the greatest beaches in Portugal. Maybe it is the "desert feeling" I always get when I see the high dunes! You can also learn surfing at Bordeira beach it is perfectly suited and many surf schools come here....More

We were unfortunate to arrive on a very windy day and the sand was blowing about, but stunning scenery, and an added bonus is the river running down the side of the beach providing somewhere else to swim. On a calm day this would be...More

This fabulous beach rivals many we have visited on the north east coast of New South Wales and southern Queensland in Australia.

Hard to access, hence the complete isolation. Lovely sand with crashing rolling waves. A real joy for walking.

Can you get food/beer on the beach?

I don't think there is anywhere on this beach to get food or drink. You would need to take it with you. There is a supermarket in the village on the main road but this is some distance from the beach.

Yes dogs are allowed but you should try to walk away from the beginning of the beach where everyone normally stays. The beach is extensive with plenty of space for you to walk the dog and sit and sunbathe away from everyone... More
