Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Got the ferry from Glenridding up to Pooley Bridge and dropped in here just before Christmas. Selection of products is fantastic and the staff and owner were all so helpful and polite. We stayed at the Inn on the Lake and would certainly recommend taking the ferry up to Pooley Bridge to visit Chesnut House and the pub opposite. Great time!

What a spectacular find for such a small village!
The shop front is unassuming and we almost walked right past it but I am SO glad we wandered in.
The range of gins is unbelievable and the friendly staff are extremely knowledgeable. Upstairs is an absolute treasure trove for foodies like us and we'll be heading back in the morning before the long drive home to stock up on some quirky finds. Prices are perfectly reasonable and in keeping with the quality of the produce and the local area.

The selection is great - you will definitely find something new to try in this shop. Also don't forget to look upstairs for some great condiments. The shopkeeper is so friendly that he even gave us a ride to Penrith. Would recommend anyone in the area to have a look in this big shop with a little door - 5 Stars!

Super lovely staff who are very knowledgeable about what they sell. Everything is a little on the pricey side, but never before have I seen so many miniatures under one roof! The only downside was it was way too busy in there under the covid climate. I think seeing as they are so small they should limit the number of people entering as it got quite crammed.

I visited Pooley Bridge to go horse riding, my guide recommended I visited Chestnut House when she found out I liked gin.

So later on that evening, I popped in and I was absolutely spoilt for choice, a tiny shop with over 300 Gins, many specialist gins I’d never heard of never mind tasted.

There was a selection of gins to try and after sampling many I opted for the gin the owners have created themselves and can only be bought from the shop. No matter what your taste their is a gin to suit your taste buds.

The shop is a tardis of local and artisan produce (think of a local independent version of Tebay services) and quite rightly deserves to be on trip advisor, it is definitely a Pooley Bridge tourist attraction in its own right!

What is great is the story of the shop, I highly recommend you visit and find out for yourself.

Visited this shop in October as we had our campervan parked nearby. The shop is great, well stocked with local quirky products and the best selection of spirits I’ve ever seen! (TRY THE STICK TOFFEE PUDDING RUM!)

The customer service was amazing, had us chatting and laughing and let us sample afew spirits too.

Will definitely return. A must do if you’re passing or in the area.

What a little gem of a place, tucked away in the corner of the village square. What looks like a tiny corner shop is in fact a tardis, full of delicious locally sourced food and treats and a lot more besides. The staff here are such a friendly bunch and always happy to help. Last night Darren went above and beyond to help us to solve our Easter egg crisis. Raiding his own DIY supplies, to make sure that our kids had their midnight Easter egg hunt. Thanks for saving Easter, Darren! 🐣

What a great little shop. A specialist shop but with every day essentials. The manager was quick to help a fellow customer in his choice of whisky which was impressive. Will certainly call again when we are in the village. Many thanks for a pleasant shopping experience.

Happened to park our motorbike right outside this fantastic shop. Good coffee and hot choc out of machine at £1-50 each, plenty of seating in courtyard at back. Ice cream stall. The shop inside is like Tardis, two floors of food, most of it local and about 400 gins!! Really friendly staff.
