Stunning Beach, we were lucky enough to spot one sea lion in the ocean which ended up coming up pretty close to us. Nice long white sandy beach to walk on.

The owner of the Nugget View Kaka Point motel, Bruce, recommended that we drive to Cannibal Bay and walk across, over a short sandy area, to Surat Bay. What a terrific suggestion! Both bays are gorgeous, elemental and picturesque, even without the sea lions. We...More

We visited Surat Bay on a nice sunny Autumn day via the dune walk from Cannible Bay, which is the neighbouring bay to the north. Nice views to the south, with golden sand stretching as far as the eye could see. Didn't see any sealions,...More

We drove to Surat Bay, which is a short detour from Owaka, on a whim as the weather was beautiful and we felt like a beach walk after some time sitting in the car. There is a carpark at the end of the gravel road...More

Walked the whole stretch of beach from car park to rocky headland and saw only birds. Good exercise though.
