Entrance to the site is completely FREE (0ther than special event days) although there are charges for the trains and miniature railway. Open most Saturdays, all Sundays and Bank Holidays from April to October. See website for more details and opening days.

Summer Rail and Model Festival

Model railways, unlimited travel on steam trains and the ambience of a busy railway over fifty years ago. Great value for money What's not to like?

A mixed bag at this site: certainly a good deal of variety (though you need to find out what's there by exploring as it's not well signed). The standard gauge trip is unique in making use on some journey of the prototype HST set, but paradoxically it's a bit frustrating travelling slowly through the countryside on this whereas the snail-like... We have done the Santa train for 4 years now and every year it gets better. We usually get there a little early and have either a bacon cob or chips and a coffee before we board the train. The children get a really good present and the adults get a small bottle of wine and a mince pie. Great... More

This is a very enjoyable heritage railway with a good array of rolling stock both diesel and electric. While there is a lot to see, some of it could be better labelled - the buses in particular. The platforms are also quite bare. Prime reason to visit this is for the 125 Group's prototype High Speed Train power car with... More

We took a family member to a special event day here for their birthday. I wasn't sure what to expect and was pleasantly surprised but it was a mixed bag. A lovely picnic area and lots of parking, we went on the steam train which was great fun - but so much longer than we realised and it was hard... More

We have always found the GCR(N) to be a very welcoming place. People seem happy to chat and discuss the work they're doing restoring carriages, for example. They are enthusiastic and the condition of the coaches used by visitors is generally good. The main drawback to the site is that the rides don't go anywhere, having to stop just short... More

This was the first time I visited this place, I enjoyed the 40 years of the HSTs event, it was good to see the East Midlands Trains HST power car and MK3 carriages coupled onto the 41 and MK3 carriages, the people from 125 group were friendly plus the Ticket Inspector was very friendly, I also enjoyed looking around the... If your little ones have any interest in trains or transport then this place is perfect for them! Ours would be there every weekend if he could. Between the trains (full size, mini and even model), the busses and the proximity to Rushcliffe Park you can easily spend hours there.
