Overview
More
Festung Königstein (Königstein Fortress) is a unique monument to the art of European fortress construction. Its 750 years' history have made it an impressive configuration of late Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and 19th century architecture. All adults and children will find something of interest on our 9.5 ha large fortress. You should plan at least two hours for a tour of the fortress. During a guided tour you will also be able to access the underground casemates. Casemate - ital. casa matta (covered house) – cannon-proof fortress rooms.

It was a day well spent! As we went in winter it was quiet and we felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. The walk from the carpark to the fortress was lovely. We purchased our tickets at the entrance and took the...More

After reading various things on here we took the little train up to the foot of the castle from the car park, and even bought return tickets(€8 for two of us). If we had realised how short the distance is we wouldn’t have bothered (it...More

You start at the parkhouse where you can leave your car. If you are fit save your money and don’t take the tourist train to the castle. The walk is not long app. 500 m up the hill. You reach the castle where you either...More

We went up bz the small train bringing us from parking to the fortress entry. Then we used a lift and were there! So high above the countryside with the river Elbe and specific picturesque mountains around. The size of the fortress is amazing: We...More

We were hiking several times on the "Malerweg" in the Saxon Switzerland close to Dresden. But we never had the time to visit the fortress Königstein. This weekend we went there from Dresden by car and it took only 40 minutes. But we parked the...More

Glad for the lift that took us up to the top where we could see over the cloud to another hill top. The massive walls were impressive.

Beautiful and picturess fortress. The view from the fortress is outstanding. Interesting main exhibition. Unfrotunately, everything to see, except main exhibition, has descriptions only in German so it is hard for somebody not knowing the language to learn more about the history of the fortress.

This place is truly beautiful, very vast, too. The fortress has many buildings, a nice restaurant, colourful gardens, and apparantly is stunning during Christmas markets.

We visited the Königstein while passing through the area. The views were amazing despite the pouring rain (although the views are very similar from the Lilienstein across the river, which is not a ticketed attraction). We did not get an audio guide, and so we...More

The festung Koenigstein is a fortress built upon a huge rock. From the top you can see the Czech republic and Poland. The castle itself is very impressive as well. I recommend the trip

The path is wide and well-surfaced. It does go uphill but is not particularly steep. If you are unsure, take the little train up and you can still consider walking down.

To visit the castle you can be spontaneous. No booking in advance is necessary. Tickets for the castle you get at the bottom of the castle where there is a lift or at the main gate further up the hill. If you are fit you can... More
