Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Highly recommend pre-booking the electric motor boat if you want to sit back and enjoy more of the canal! Don’t get me wrong, the row boats are great, but if it’s just one rowing then that can be enough for an hour. The boat was easy to use and even the children had a go. We only booked an hour, but it was worth it and will book for two hours next time as you can go quite far out. Great staff, easy to book and very helpful. You won’t be disappointed!

Very therapeutic couple of hours spent on the canal today thanks to this company. Reasonably priced hire for a single kayak and I was intrigued how little craft I encountered by travelling to the right. The website is good, providing information needed in this current situation. This is a popular place on a sunny day but, as today was overcast, I barely had to queue and the system was efficient. Highly recommended for a bit of fun or to chill out.

Hired Juniper narrow boat for a 7hr day trip on the Basingstoke Canal, 4 adults all over 50 and a dog. Great host, boat immaculate. We loved it.
What I want to highlight about this trip though is what a great way to get an introduction to taking a narrow boat out. The canal is wide, easily navigable and has very little traffic - I wish I had done this trip last year before undertaking a longer narrow boat holiday on a not so forgiving canal.
We pottered up the canal, stopped off for lunch at the Barley Mow Pub for lunch, continued afterward with all but the two of us (me and the dog) partaking of wine and more finger food.
Other points then.
There was reserved parking for one car on entering the yard, clear and obvious. Thanks for that.
My mum, in her 80's, was with us and she struggles walking. Access to the boat was not easy for her, narrow and uneven walkway we could not safely get wheelchair down, I'm guessing around 10m. She walked slowly with her sticks down the walkway and was happy to do so.
The canal is quite shallow near the banks in some places. Yep, we grounded on one bend when thinking far enough away from bank. That's what poles are for though, right? Added to the fun.
Reversing back into the boatyard at end of day seemed a little daunting, however I was expertly talked through the manoeuvre from the bank and it was painless.
On setting off you have option of going left towards Odiham Castle, there is a swing bridge that way. If you are new to this and want to get some experience I would say go that way to start, turn just after the castle and then go downstream for lunch.
We had a great day out on the boat and I have no reservations recommending the experience. We will be going again later this year.

Booked a week's break with Galleon Marine on the Narrowboat Teasel to cruise the Basingstoke Canal. The boat was ideal for two people and was clean and well equipped. Booking and collecting the boat was easy and we were greeted by Karen and Arthur when we arrived. The Welcome Pack and other information received when we booked was informative and gave a good introduction to the 'boat handover' upon arrival. The Canal is tranquil and is the ideal location to see a wide range of wildlife. The highlights for us included the sounds of Cuckoos, Owls and other birdsong. The best sight was of a Dabchick swimming under the crystal clear water towards its nest. Our time on the canal was relaxing and totally different to the bustle of many other UK waterways. Galleon Marine provided excellent service and we will be repeat customers in the future.

Enjoyed a lovely four night holiday on Holly. Fantastic customer service from Karen, Arthur and the team with a very comprehensive but quick handover. The facilities on Holly were more than adequate and the boat was lovely and clean. The scenery to Frimley and then back through to Odiham Castle was fantastic and very quiet with the majority of other boats on the canal coming from the small Galleon fleet. Our only piece of advice would be to pack light, as luggage space with 6 on-board can be tight. We can't wait to do it again..

We hired a canoe from Galleon Marine for 2 hours, we walk the canal a lot and were keen to explore from the water. Hire was easy and efficient. We checked the website before we went and it contained all of the information we needed. There was a short queue (Friday, 11:30) but plenty of availability. The staff were friendly. The boat was great and we really enjoyed our little adventure.

We booked a four night break starting Monday on Teasel in June. The whole process was really simple and both Karen and Arthur couldn't have been more helpful or nice. The boat was great, super clean and really simple to operate. Overall it was a really relaxing break and we will definitely be booking another trip soon. Highly recommended.

Had a fantastic week aboard the Teasal narrow boat. The narrow boat was very clean and well equipped, with lovely small personal touches. The owners were very friendly and helpful and gave their time explaining various things regarding the boat and places to stop and things to see along the way. They were also on the other end of the phone when we had any queries. We had a very peaceful week along the canal. Very picturesque and plenty of wildlife along the, including swans with their babies, ducks, herons and more. Highly recommend the narrow boat and the company

The Basingstoke Canal is such a beautiful part of Hampshire and Surrey, passed closely by many thousands of people in cars and trains every day, but experienced only by the fortunate few.
Our boat Bramble from Galleon Marine was a delight, well appointed and with many thoughtful touches.
A warm welcome and thorough handover.
We got all four seasons over the weekend we booked as it was the second last weekend in October, but each I think added to our appreciation of the wonderful environment, wildlife and changes of landscape we all experienced onboard.

for hire of 2/3 berth narrowboat what is definition of short break is it only long weekend or can it be say Monday ,Tuesday and wednesday?
Written 26 May 2019
Our changeover days are the same as other UK hire companies Monday and Friday. So a short break is either Friday 4pm to Monday 10am or Monday 4pm to Friday 10am. This gives us time to clean and get boats ready between hires.
