Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a specialist gallery. Plant paintings by Marianne North. The paintings are very densely displayed and the gallery is very much a product of its time. It has seating and toilets and is a good rest stop. If you are a fan of plant paintings this is for you.

I admittedly hadn't heard of this lady before visiting, so I came away enlightened and enthralled. I have subsequently bought a beautiful book containing illustrations of her entire work. Definitely a must-visit place.

I have have always been entranced by Marianne Norths life’s work of travelling the world after her fathers death and painting the botanical life everywhere she went. You will be too if that description appeals. Allow time if you’re only passing through for this and the Shirley Sherwood collection next door.

At the moment the temporary exhibition garden photographer of the year is erected outside these galleries. Not to be missed

Beautiful paintings by a lady who travelled to so many places many years ago. The volunteers are very knowledgeable. Plus it was very cool in there, an interesting history lesson and many books on Marianne in the shop.

I was completely overwhelmed when I saw the Marianne North Gallery; it was not what I had been expecting. We were already in Kew Gardens and it was included in the admission ticket we had purchased.

Marianne North was a famous biologist and botanical painter who travelled around the world searching for rare plants and flowers. She did many paintings of flowers in their natural habitat and a gallery of her work opened at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. It is a wonderful collection of over 800 paintings housed in a beautiful Victorian building and is attached to the Shirley Sherwood Gallery.

The Marianne North Gallery is definitely worth a visit – a fascinating presentation of her life and work.

This gallery exhibits the botanical art of Marianne North, an English biologist and botanical artist who's prolific output can be seen here. The gallery is literally pack with her output, paintings display side by side virtually cover every inch of the walls. Some of the paintings are wonderfully detailed as she documented plant life wherever she visits the world. Personally, the standout painting is of Nepenthes Northiana, ironically named after Marianne North, which shows the both the plant's lower and an upper pitcher.

It's a pity photography is not allowed.

I revisited the Marianne North Gallery while in Kew Gardens and was once again in awe of the works of this exceptional lady. For one woman to have done so much while travelling around the world on her own in Victorian times is a truly magnificent achievement.

The presentation of her life and work was truly amazing and fascinating, we will definitely return!

This attraction is inside Kew Gardens and the cost is included in the price for entry into Kew Gardens.

Not many visitors come here however this gallery is unique - not only a beautiful collection of some 800 paintings of flora but displayed in an amazing way by geography and in a beautiful Victorian building designed for the purpose.

A really inspiring story spelt out in pictures. You can easily lose yourself in both for several hours. And it deserves your attention but be wary there is a lot to absorb so maybe take a break after the first room to reflect on the woman.
