West Country Blacksmiths are a group of extremely talented Blacksmiths, metalworkers, designers and engineers who have come together to form a formidable metalworking team offering a huge range of premium services from the National Trust forge known as Allerford Forge.

Allerford Forge is based int he beautiful village of Allerford on the Holincote Estate on the edge of Exmoor in Somerset, which is an area of outstanding natural beauty.

The teams work is also a thing of beauty, producing some of the finest metalwork for both local and national project from there forge, using the traditional coal forge which blacksmiths have used for centuries.

As part of the vast range of services the team offer, the forge continues to offer a traditional 'blacksmiths down the road.' service which repairs this and fixes that for locals, which most communities have lost over the years.

the forge also boasts a onsite gallery displaying pictures of the teams work and a number of interesting items available to purchase.

The forge is a fully working forge and through you can not enter the building, you can still see the team at work though the doors and windows, whilst also seeing a local smith working the traditional coal forge.

This is a National Trust property and consists of two buildings, one was originally a cobblers shop from around 1876 and the other is the traditional coal forge which is still in use today where they make gates, wine racks and lots more ornate and bespoke works. The forge was closed when we visited on a Sunday but I could... More

Traditional country forge in a beautiful National Trust Exmoor village. Great range of useful and decorative items for sale, and they also undertake commissions. You can watch the blacksmiths at their work and they are happy to tell you about what they do. Rural craftsmanship at its very best, well worth a visit.

My wife and I came for a nose here today and were surprised at the beautiful range of forged goods available at fairly reasonable prices. A great place to spend some money!

Kyle, Kieran and the rest of the team will basically make anything that you want, to any shape, and are very reasonably priced. They also have a large stock of hand-forged items from candlesticks and hinges to iron flowers (ok, sounds daft, but take a look at the roses and daffodils that they make). Laid-back bunch who will do that... More

Great little town, very picturesque. The forge is fabulous. Smiths, when not working, are very easy to talk to about what they do, and how things work. Nice pieces for sale also. Very reasonably priced.

We popped in on spec to see what door furniture was available and ended up placing an order for a made to measure hasp for a box. The young chaps could not have been more helpful. A few weeks later the hasp arrived in the post. We shall definitely use them again.

Nothing ‘themed’ or contrived here, just a genuine age-old blacksmith’s forge next to the river, unchanged down the centuries, with local men working it. You can peek in at the door at them hammering the hot metal or bellowing the flames and no-one is putting on a show for the tourists - they're just doing their work as if no-one... More

This little forge has been going for generations and is in Allerford, a little National Trust village tucked just off the main A39 between Minehead and Porlock. It was originally used for horses and farm implements but recently it's been run by some young blacksmiths with imagination and great ideas. The open fire/bellows are used and traditional anvil. You can... More
