Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I first visited Bermuda in 1976 and have returned several times since then. While I have explored all over the island over the years, I am embarrassed to admit that this was my first time visiting the chapel on the grounds of the Heydon Trust Gardens. I am so glad that I finally visited this amazing property!
This historical chapel dates back to about 1616 and is an amazing site to see. It is a very small building, but the vintage wood pews look as if at least 20 people could be seated comfortably. The podium area displayed a Bible opened up to the book of Proverbs. The wood beams that formed the ceiling were also magnificent. The outside of the chapel is all white; on one side of the church is a plaque with a scripture verse. Across from the chapel is a small sitting area with a large wooden cross planted in a garden-like area. The background to the cross and garden is the beautiful water of Bermuda. Such a serene and spiritual location!
The chapel is located on a huge 43 acre property. This is not the typical tourist stop, so you will have to drive to the top of the hill when you pass the sign for the Heydon Trust; just remember to bear left and you will see the chapel on your right. There is no fee and you will likely be the only visitor.
In addition to the Chapel, there are foot paths that you can walk along to explore the gardens. This is a great place to slow down and take in a bit of nature amidst an incredibly serene setting. This will be a truly unique experience during your visit to Bermuda.

This small chapel dates back to 1620 and is nestled in a lovely grove of trees in western Sandy's Parish. The chapel has views of Ely's turquoise harbor down below to the west and the Great Sound to the east. Built of now nearly extinct Bermudian cedar wood, the inside of the little chapel feels nearly alive with stories to tell about the early days of these islands. Across from the chapel on a hillside is an outdoor area with seats and a cross offering space for contemplation and serenity. The little building contains not only the chapel but also a tiny living space with an outdoor cistern for catching water for daily use.
The chapel still holds nondenominational services.
Morning services are held in the Chapel at 7 a.m. on weekdays.
Th chapel address is 16 Heydon Lane, off Somerset Road, Sandy's, Bermuda. Phone 441-234-1831. You can use nearby bus sttops # 7 or # 8.
This Chapel is a precious little gem and well worth th visit. Enjoy!

7th trip to Bermuda and first time here...beautiful and quaint chapel...dates back to 1600's...always get chills just placing my hand on buildings this old...feels like touching history...it's a bit off the road in Somerset...but my wife and I are glad we did stop there...even for a few minutes...they have a guest book and noticed 17 others had signed it that day...so not many make the trip...do it if you can...beautiful vistas from there as well.

We took a taxi tour and got to stop at this hidden gem! It's a quick walk through, maybe five minutes tops but it was definatly a cool piece of Bermudian history to stop and see!

We visited here with our extended family, two teenage boys and my parents. it is a short stop 10-15 minutes tops. When the islands of Bermuda were mapped out in the 1600's this was the only (first) stone structure! Watch your head going in! Because the roof is lower than most newer construction you are able to really see how the rain water is collected and delivered to the cistern. Stop by say a prayer and enjoy the commanding view!

Heydon's Chapel is the oldest church in Bermuda. Although services no longer are held there, weddings can be scheduled. Located on 44 private acres in Sandys Parrish, the chapel was built in 1616, providing a look back at history. We visited there as part of Ricky's Tours and enjoyed the peaceful location and the beauty of the chapel.

When visiting the Heydon Chapel in Sandy's Parish, Bermuda one will be astound by a very real revelation of evolution of the human habitat. Heydon Chapel was originally a dwelling, dating back and build before 1620. The walls erected by use of coral lime stone, roof rafters, door and window frames made of Bermuda Cedar. For roofing are lime stone slates double layered, white cement washed for a sanitary water collection. That lovely small dwelling has one large room, fireplace and cooking area as well a washing room. All under one roof. Absolutely 100% worthwhile to visit,... think and compare with your modern comfort and house you live in.
Almost 400 years of evolution!

As a previous reviewer said, off the beaten path, but worth it! Saw this as part of our tour. Quaint, 3 pew chapel, with rich history. See the ovens where slaves cooked. A beautiful chapel.

Charming old building, gives one a taste of how like once was on the island. Set on a bluff overlooking the sea.

We stopped at this charming chapel while on Ricky's Island Tour. The building dates back to 1616 and was converted to a chapel in 1943. The views from the site are amazing!
