About
This Gothic revival church was intended to replace the Town Church (St. Peter's Church) and construction began in 1874. Disunity within the parishioners and lack of funding led to the project taking decades to complete - the roof went on in 1897. By then the desire for a grand new church had faded and efforts turned to restoring St. Peter's Church, which serves as Anglican Parish of St. George church today. The Unfinished Church was damaged by a tornado in 1925 and supsequent hurricanes. Today it is a beautiful ruin, popular for weddings and photo shoots.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Getting there is simple, but expected to be able to take pictures and walk around.... surprise surprise, there’s no access. You can peek inside, take a few pics of the inside but that’s it.
We were expecting something like the church in Antigua, Guatemala where you are able to walk around.

It's kind of a cool thing to come across while walking to Tobacco Bay Beach, but not worth going out of your way to see. For safety reasons, you can not get too close, or even walk around the entire ruin. Your time is better spent exploring the many small active churches near by. If looking for ruins, walk the entirety of Barry Road on the North shore of St George's Parish. Better yet, catch the Haunted Ghost Tour: sign up at the shop Salt Sea Soaps and Books.

The gate was open at the Unfinished Church. I walked it & it was peaceful, majestic & beautiful. The calmness of this historic site was undesirable. I’m still in awe that I witnessed & took lots of pictures of this place. I hear it’s now used for weddings & events. Maybe that’s why the gate was opened.

If you are making the trek to Fort St. Catherine's this is along the way, so you might as well stop. Very pretty, plague on right side of church states why it is unfinished. Can't access inside, but make sure to see the pretty little path on the left side.

Pretty nice spot. Good shade and breeze inside the walls. Unique attraction, certainly worth a pass through if in St. George though not so great to necessarily make St. George a must visit.

My husband is Bermudian and we could have gotten married in the states but our decision to get married in Bermuda was based on this church. We saw it on a tour on my first trip to Bermuda in 2013. We when got engaged I wondered if weddings were held here and if our date was available. They did and it was! so we booked. It's a beautiful landmark, it was a great experience and I can't wait to see our photos.

Know before making the walk up to the cathedral that it is indeed closed-- views from the outside are OK, but would say it's only worth looking at if it is on your walk from St George over to Fort Catherine and/or Tobacco Beach.

My favorite part of Bermuda. The juxtaposition of the ruined gothic architecture and the serene surroundings is amazing.

Favorite bits:
- palm trees waving through the glass-less arched windows
- amazing blue sky as the cathedral ceiling and grass as the floor
- roosters next door providing their own hymns

We took a public bus there from Hamilton and had to find our way through an almost rural area from the last stop. Apparently this is the backwards way to find the church, but it made it feel like a discovery when we managed to get there.

There’s nothing too exciting to see here. The church doesn’t have a roof and grass grew on the inside. There was a gate so we couldn’t access inside. There was a bit of history written outside of the church. The upside of this place is that it’s walking distance from Tobacco Bay.

Situated within walking distance of the town square, this "unfinished church" has a special history as written in the following photos. Once there follow the signs to "the Beach" surprise awaits you.
