BERWYN was deliberately scuttled by her crew, sometime around 1916: they didn't want to do the next run for fear of German U-boats. So they opened her sea-cocks and let her wallow (which is why she is essentially upright today, even though she's crumbling fast) Everyone including the ship's cat swam ashore to Browne's Beach, unharmed.
