I liked playa Funchi for its secluded location, where one can relax under the palapa, watch the iguanas as well as flamingoes in the salina.
The snorkeling is not interesting, corral mostly broken, lack of fish, but we got to see moray

Really nice dive and snorkel location. Also has some shaded picnic benches and some nice hiking in the area.

We went here for a dive. It was an easy set up and entry. We had a nice dive, but afterwards we saw a big iguana and lots of pretty lizards. Directly across from the beach where we parked, was a little lake (?) area where there were a bunch of flamingos. It was really cool to prep for a dive around a bunch of dead coral\rock walls, with flamingos on one side with lizards running around, and the beautiful Caribbean Blue ocean on our other side.

This is nice place to walk on and enjoy the view. It is okay for snorkel but the beach is stony and makes it for difficult access to water without water shoes

At the stop in the park we saw lots of iguana's begging for some food and offering themselves for making some nice pictures. The beach is perfect, beautiful, the sea sometimes a bit rough. Really worth a stopover when visiting the park.

This is the northernmost beach accessible by both the 'long route' and the 'short route' through the park. We were pleasantly surprised to find a brand new picnic table with a thatched roof over it, so we stopped and ate our picnic lunch here. There were flamingos and shore birds in the Salina which borders the beach on the East. The dive site has a strong current and is only for advanced divers. We didn't see any divers during our visit.

Don't park or the ridge. Drive down to the shore.

Don't lock your car. That is a signal that you might have valuables. Your car window will get smashed with one of the many rocks just to be sure there is nothing worth stealing.

Don't ever leave anything in your car.

Playa Funchi is on the long route around the national park. It's worth stopping for the photo opportunities .

You are going to need a truck or jeep to get there. The park permit fee is $25 for the calendar year. The road. if you can call it that is rough, very rough so, I would not advise going more than 20km/hr. Take it slow and enjoy the sites along the way. Bring lots of water and sun screen and get there early (0900 hours) as the park closes at 1700 hours.

This small ocean bay is located in the northwest part of the park. A little over an hour drive from the park enterance. We found that Playa Funchi (dive site # 3) is one of the best scuba dive sites on the island, but also one of the most dangerous. There is plenty of marine life and a amazingly colorful variety of coral to tantalize any diver. However, divers beware that the rapidly shifting strong currents and undertows can make underwater navigation tricky. We went on a shore dive at Playa Funchi which turned into a drift dive because we overshot our exit spot. After what appeared to be an endless vertical coral cliff climbing straight out of the ocean between Playa Funchi and Playa Bengè, we found a stone outcropping at the water's edge and we were able to make our way to the face of the cliff. Our next challenge involved scaling up a 55 foot (17 meter) cliff in a 3mm wetsuit with a full set of scuba gear in tow. We hiked along the coastline for nearly a mile (1.5 kilometers) to Playa Bengè. My girlfriend then walked 2.5 miles (4 kilometers) back to the truck through cactus saturated trails. I stayed with the scuba gear by the roadside. She is still pulling needles out of her neoprene scuba boots. It was well after 5 PM by the time we got the truck back close to the scuba gear. A park ranger and his young son were in the process of closing the park when they came upon us. They were most helpful in assisting and escorting us out of the park. After that eventful experience, we were much more mindful of the underwater current situation. It was an unplanned adventure we will not forget anytime soon. We returned to the park the next day and retraced our water exit point pack to the road by Playa Bengè. If you stay in the small cove, it makes for a nice area to snorkel or swim. However, Wayaka, right down the road offers swimmers a much more picturesque and sandy beach location with less current to fight.
