Near the northwestern shore, the peak is a good place to take in the sweep of the island and the curve of the Caribbean horizon.

Tough-ish hike

Nice hike to the top. Make sure you wear sensible footwear (no flip flops) as other people have mentioned the last bit is quite rough.

This was a lot of fun but it wasn't a hike at all. The first part of the trail is along the road. That's about as close to a hike as you get. Once you start to climb up the mountain, there is no trail at all. You are just jumping from rock to rock. There are trail markers along... More

Didn't really plan the shoes for this walk, and one of the teenage daughters had flipflop which didn't work out and we had to return when the climb got really steep. But the views were magnificent where we were anyhow!

This is a great hike, but it is not for the faint of heart! The trail does start off relatively easy. Obviously, since you are going up a mountain, it gets steeper as you go. I expected that, of course. What I did not expect was that the trail would eventually disappear, and the hike would become a bit more... More

This is the highest point on Bonaire. The hike is about 4 miles round trip. Most of the trail is easy walking but the last 1/4 mile involves some scrambling. Adequate foot wear is a must. Don't do this in sandals. Go early in the day. It gets very hot on the lower part of the trail. Up higher it... More

Brandaris was an excellent climb! At the beginning the path meanders over some lower hills through the desert landscape and then you pass you a gate which keeps the goats out and you begin the real hike. The last part of the climb is over the rocky tops of the lower peak and then Brandaris so that takes some courage... More

We have been coming to Bonaire for 17 years and have never hiked Brandaris. A lot of people that we know that have lived on the island haven't either. Well, it was pretty easy at first but as you get to the bottom of the mountain, it is almost like rock climbing! I really enjoyed it but there are some... More

We were not able to actually hike at the park because, although we arrived before 14:00 (2pm) knowing that they wouldn't let cars go into the park after that hour, we were after 12:00, which is apparently the cut-off if you want to drive in AND go hiking. This is because it really does take that long to go through... More

I'm writing this review to give the first time visitor information on how to visit the highlights of Washington-Slagbaai National Park, Bonaire because visiting this park requires some advance planning. We are an active, outdoors family traveling with children ages 11 and 16. When you visit Bonaire, the main attraction is the diving/snorkeling on the island. You must pay a... More

But this hike is not for the faint of heart or ill prepared. Hiked to the top in about 45 minutes, fast pace, no stopping. You will need good shoes. The entire trail is rocky, last part is steep and exposed. Hot, make sure you bring at least a pint of water. Hike down takes almost as long. This is... More
