Castle overlooking the harbour entrance

Huge complex of fortifications opposite old Havana. I visited on a day when the far side of the castle was lashed with water rising 20 metres or more from the ocean.

Taking a trek to the other side of the BAY is great. I love stopping by here at least one time before I leave just to take in the sunset.

I actually didn't get to the Morro castle but was very close across the Malecon wall. They do hold a ceremony at night firing the canons starting at 6/7pm so maybe that would be something of interest.

The best views of Havana, the Malecon seafront and port from a historically interesting site - not to be missed!

If you can time it correctly, this is a great place to watch the sunset and take some photos of Havana.

We visited El Morro and it was good to see the history dating back hundreds of years. I think some locals call it the castle. There was such beautiful architecture. It is right on the water and across the river you see the beautiful skyline of Havana. It was nice just to stroll around the property.

I think many people who are leaving reviews are getting confused. There are actually two forts overlooking Havana bay which are next to each other. El Morro is the famous one, where you can see the lighthouse overlooking the bay, however, it is NOT where the cannon is fired from. That is done from San Carlos de Cabana, which is... More

We went there by rental car like an hour before the supposed cannon shooting as I had read some comments to do so if we want to get a better view. It was totally abandoned! Absolutely no lights, no signs, no movement. Actually if it wasnt for the app we had installed on our cell, we probably wouldnt have found... More

Any local will tell you that you can set your watch at 9pm each night because that is when they fire the canon from El Morro. Get there plenty early to see the museum and stroll up to where they fire the canon early. Unless you're willing to go an hour early, you won't get a front row view, but... More

Beautiful (as long as you put blinders on to all the trash and hold your nose in certain areas). Definitely worth a visit to this side if you are staying in Havana. It's only a short taxi ride and you can make one trip and see El Christo, Che's house and the outdoor military museum while you're here.
