- Andre ApolinarioKralendijk, Bonaire34 contributionsThe blue room with Capt. Good LifeCaptain Good Life took us there by boat (Let's go watersports) with his lovely daughter "Isa" Our 5 year old love the drill and we had to get in and out of the cave 3 times... cause we had to go or we would still be there. It's not an extreme adventure but believe claustrophobic people might have doubts to go in but proper guidance will solve it. It's beautiful as the rest of the coast line. A must "to do"...Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 19 October 2023
- KristianPeace River, Canada165 contributionsQuiet secluded cave.Amazing little spot. Hiked in early morning and there was not a soul in the area. Took maybe 25 minutes to get there but got eaten alive by mosquitoes (so I was quicker than normal). Would likely recommend bug spray in rainy season. Once you get to the top of the rocks it is not immediately clear where to go but continue on down and to the left you will see a small path. The way out has a stub of rebar on the side of the cave mouth to exit. Very nice spot even in the morning. Lots of sea life and the cave was amazing. Would recommend for sure to those who are competent swimmers.Visited November 2023Travelled soloWritten 2 December 2023
- Bethany Z.10 contributionsGlad a saw it..Went here as part of a tour. It’s beautiful! Weather conditions were optimal so it was easy to enter from the water. We saw many fish. I’d only go with a tour group and enter from the water not the land.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 18 February 2024

We were really excited about going to the Blue Room cave so we decided to take the 15.00 o'clock boat (which was told by us on his website and also when we got there). But his wife already yelled at us: 2 person boat no no. When the 'captain' himself arrived he also yelled from his boat: come back tomorrow at 13.00. This was for sure not worth the one hour drive and I will never go there again.

Alright. We went with “Captain Goodlife.” That’s a good name if it refers to how you feel after getting out of his boat with your life. His daughter is the most competent person in the world. She saved the lives of everyone there, and one guy twice. Captain Goodlife, however, didn’t check his boat in the morning. So he starts w a song on the radio that goes “f*** her” in Spanish, repeatedly. That’s the first time his daughter yelled at him. The second time was when he tried to check the oil and refuel the boat with a lit, unashed cigarette in his mouth. He also omitted how bad the tide was that day. Then, he dropped the anchor unsuccessfully, flagged down two customers that rented kayaks (from him), and paddled back to shore with zero explanation while a tourist had a heat stroke and his daughter managed the lives in his hands. Since the anchor never got… anchored, we were drifting closer and closer to Venezuela, which was pretty freakin scary considering the circumstances. Not only is seeing land again getting less and less likely, now it’s a toss up over whether I’m even welcome on the land I end up on??
Finally, he gets back w a long canoe and asks if anyone wants to continue the tour. Amazingly, three Dutch tourists said yes. I, however, got (some, because he’s a dad and I am not a citizen of curaçao, so I figured I’d take what i got and go before this guy gets weirder). The point is that it’s been enough time that his daughters are probably long gone anyways. Initially, we decided to leave it because the daughter can run that “excursion” with her eyes closed and she lived there. Now, it feels less consequential. So here’s a photo of the dude smoking a cigarette into the engine compartment of a smoking boat with 20 tourists and his daughter on board.

There are reviews from Conker101, Jaycuracao and MatthewM that explain very well how to hike to the spot from Playa Santa Cruz. Some people have had good experiences with Captain GoodLife but others have not so we didn't use. We hiked it and it was a pretty easy 20 min hike. We were alone for a good part of the visit too since we didn't go with a group.
Snorkeling gear is a plus. I just can't see how swimming without snorkeling gear would allow you to experience the cave and surrounding reefs as well. I also don't think that 40 min of hiking and whatever other time you spend going to Playa Santa Cruz would be justified if all you are doing is swimming in and out of a cave.
After visiting the cave you can snorkel around the reefs. It is beautiful. I would also wear booties for fins because the coral rocks are pretty painful to walk on. Maybe I'm a wimp but I think it would have been a lot more comfortable wearing booties...

Be careful! With high tide this can be dangerous
I booked a boat tour with captain good life. We went to three snorkel stops but be aware when the tide is rough this might be dangerous if you are not a good swimmer or had a few beers. One guy came back with a bloody head and I injured my hands due to the fact you have to hold your hand above your head when entering. The swim is underwater since the waves are blocking the entrance. It’s about one or two minutes underwater depending on the tide. Be aware there are people in the past who drowned. Was it worth it? Not really since I thought the luminous lagoon in Jamaica was so much better and safer.

Interesting experience, worth the visit. But you better be a confident swimmer, especially if weather is not calm. During the low tide exiting from the water requires a bit of exercise. So overall good physical shape is recommended for this trip.
If you go on your own (without guides), make sure to bring someone along with you.

We hiked here ourselves. It took us about 30 minutes from the start of the trail to ge to the actual cave. It was not a difficult hike. The clarity of the water was stunning. The entrance to the cave was easy to find and once inside we were transformed into another world. This is an excursion not to be missed.

What an amazing experience! I followed the detailed directions on KC’s review below…Dec 2021. My son and I did the quick hike (20 minutes) Arrived at the edge of the cave. It’s about a 10 foot jump into the ocean or you can walk down a small trail and enter the water there. It’s easy to get back out…just need a little upper body strength to pull yourself out. Once in the water and your in front of the cave, it definitely looks intimidating….very dark. Just fight your fear and enter. When you’re in the cave, there is plenty of light that shines in. The views looking back towards the ocean once you’re in are amazing.
It’s definitely worth the the time and effort to get there….highly recommend it!

Tried hiking to the Blue Room in 2019 but failed to find it. Took a 2 hour boat trip with Captain Good Life from Playa Santa Cruz in 2021 and really enjoyed the experience. Highly recommend it! He's quite the character, very friendly, and the sights (Blue Room, sunken ship, and reef) are definitely worth seeing! Just go with the flow...

Yes we are coming in by cruise ship and are trying to decide if we should book excursion for Blue Cave or take taxi to Playa Santa Cruz and use Captain Goodlife. Since his tour is only 90 minutes, we are then taxi to another beach, which might be cost comparable to booking excursion. Any suggestions?? Is there Blue Room excursion you recommend?

DO NOT go to the Captain Goodlife. it is terrible

We are interested in booking the tour through Adrenaline Tours but am curious what other beaches they stop at, in addition to Blue Cave.

There are a couple of other snorkel spots that are awesome spots and not a lot of other tours visiting. Very enjoyable!

Well I booked the Blue room snorkel and boat trip. After looking on a map of Curacao it shows out Adreline Tour is about 22 miles from the Port dock. Can anyone till me how long it takes to get to their location from the port and if Taxi's are available for hire out front. Thanks
Written 11 October 2017
I guess you are coming over by Cruise ship? Usually tour operators collect their guests at the port but you should contact them to confirm this. There are taxis but they can get quiet expensive.

I would so like to take the Blue Room snorkel tour but I do have reservations about my ability. I am a strong swimmer but will be 65 when I visit Curacao in Feb 2018. I have looked at a tide chart to determine when Low tide will be for the day that I am there. Do you think this would be OK for a women/65 to do?

If you are a strong swimmer then yes. It’s a magical experience!

Has anyone taken a good tour that includes the Blue Room?
Written 12 July 2016
I can swim although I get anxious at times (past had near drowning experience) . Not the strongest swimmer but float really well when the panic hits. For those of you who are mediocre swimmers like me, should I pass on this adventure? It does sounds amazing.
