- Kris123 contributionsOkay tourVery short tour and hard to hear the guides as there are other people doing tours. They kind of bombard your tour it seems they are from a tour bus with their own guide. You can basically walk through and learn the same thing in your own. They have this spray towards the end that is very potent so people were gagging as the guides insisted they tried and sprayed them even when saying no. It was interesting and glad to go but took longer than it should have.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 January 2024
- Cindy SDerry, New Hampshire40 contributionsVery handyWe missed the option to tour due to arrival time and had limited options to try the product. They offered 3 flavors for free. We sat outside and ordered drinks at the bar area and then toured the gift shop. Friendly and lots of options for purchase of their products and Anna Bay rum.Visited March 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 9 March 2024
- boseguera35 contributionsA MUST when visiting Curacao! This is a great option for a quick tour to learn about the island and the liqueur. It is pretty interesting and it's short and sweet. Depending on the tour you buy, you can try some drinks at the end, take advantage of the gift shop. You can't go to the island without doing this tour!Visited March 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 9 April 2024

We arrived at the Distillery via an Atlantis Tour bus and our tour guide actually did the talking at the Distillery. There were some placards that explained the process and a short movie. There were also some old distillery tanks and such and a few other displays. It was interesting to learn that the oranges are green and never do turn orange. It was also fun to hear that all the various colors of Liqueur are for esthetics and that they all taste the same other than the Chocolate. It was fun and a learning experience so glad we went, but was clearly a quick visit as opposed to other distilleries I’ve visited where professional tours were given. I’d recommend.

We went last minute at the end of the day to the distillery and they were able to make accommodations for us! Ely was our guide and he was kind patient and knowledgeable. He toured us through the distillery and explained the history of this special liquor, the process of how it is made, and what makes it unique. He sprayed us with the special body spray that has a lot of healing properties... it felt amazing on my sunburn. He let us sample a few different flavors as well. We got cocktails included with our $15 per person tour and a 10% discount off of the items we purchased at the gift shop. We got some of the menthol spray, some different flavored liquors, and a handmade Curaçao magnet all for decent prices! Highly recommend if you visit Curaçao to go here. Visit by 3PM for a tour!

This popular stop was requested on our private tour. A large guided tour was departing as we got there, if we wanted to wait for the next one, it would be like an hour. Our driver was able to negotiate a “special guided tour” with just us two, and a couple that also missed the start, sweet! You can walk thru the “distillery” part on your own for free. Even though there are storyboards and the original still from 1896, you will want to take at least the basic tour for the free tastings, and one complimentary cocktail from the bar You also get a better understanding of the process and the history. Got to relax a while on the covered courtyard patio.
They offer three tour experiences, at increasing cost. Basically, more cocktails, plus gelato, or a chance to learn how to mix your own. Their gift shop is large, and has a great selection. They have a great website with photos, information, directions, product for purchase, and tour times & reservations, (although not required). Well worth the money. We spent a little over an hour here. Of course, I had the Mai Tai, pretty good one too.

When you arrive, do not take the guided tour, it would be throwing money away. This distillery is very small. In fact it is difficult to believe that all of the bottles of Blue Curacao found around the world come from this one place. For example:The bottles are filled by one girl who was doing it by hand. There is only one still that has been in use from the very beginning and it looks a bit rusty where the tubes connect. The reason a tour guide is not necessary is because there are descriptive plaques adjacent to each part of process and they also describe the history of the immediate area.

We came here as part of an excursion from Royal Caribbean. The history of the Blue Curacao liquor (and multiple other flavors) was interesting but about 5 mins worth. Tasting of the various flavors followed by the mandatory exit through the gift shop. More tourist trappy than most.

Great tour of the Curacao Liqueur Distillery. Not too long and interesting, very nice staff, and liqueur tasting and cocktails followed included in the ticket price. Not too crowded when I went, but the busses were coming in when I left. Great for a cruise ship excursion when you don't have a ton of time or to visit while staying locally on the beautiful island. Know the cabs are not cheap. We were charged $20 for 2 and told that was the minimum. We shared a cab with another couple of people on the way back and it was $15 for 2 to go from the distillery to the ship. Check and see if ship excursions are worth the money given the round trip cab fares. Enjoy!

We got Curacao from Curacao! Great tour guide. Our group was about 20 people. But tour buses come through without a guide so there can be a ton of people there at a time. Our guide took our drink order after the tour and brought the drinks to us.
Not too far from the cruise port.

I went with the Duxe guided tour and it was very much worth it! I got a fun and educational tour from a friendly guide, Eli. Afterwards I got two cocktails. I could choose from various ones all of them had a Curaçao liquor in it.
So much fun. I highly recommend to all who like alcohol, history and learning how liquor is made.

We wish we could have heard what the guide had to say - tour group of 20 was TOO large. Three samples after the tour were good. Tour guides were the waiters as well. Ours got mixed up and forgot some people’s orders. Fortunately the other tour guide was efficient and helped out. My partner still waited 20 minutes for his drink. It just seemed like a sales pitch to buy their liquor!

We came here when here on a cruise ship stop driving a rental car but not part of a shore excursion. We didn't pay for a tour but a cruise ship tour was there and we walked through the factory with them. The tour is a warehouse with some exhibits on the history and bottling procedures of the liquor. It is small with labeling done by hand. Then they have you taste small samples of blue, tamarind and chocolate. My husband got a frozen drink at the bar and we visited their gift shop. Pleasant and clean for a short stop although not a must see. We used google maps to find it.

What would be the most economical way to go from the cruise terminal to here and then to Mambo Beach? Traveling March 4th and really don't want to do a long island tour, looking for something short. TIA.
Written 22 February 2020
We did an excursion from the cruise that went to the distillery, drove through town giving history/info and dropped us off at Mambo beach for the afternoon, it was a cheap excursion and easy, plus the amount of time at Mambo beach was perfect.

Unfortunately, the Tamarind liqueur is not available in the USA. They do have the Curaçao Liqueur available. Check their website.

I don't remember. But, I remember that I didn't buy enough in hopes of finding the bottles elsewhere at a super market or convenience store. But, I couldn't find them so I wish I had bought more. The markets on the island carry the knock-off triangular bottles because they are cheaper.

We would like to take the Standard guided tour as one cocktail is plenty for us. Could we still buy the gelato to try or would it be less expensive to just do the Deluxe guided tour and have the gelato included? Also, if we are not on a "tour group", how can we get to your factory and back to the cruise port area (I thought I saw that taxis are 20 US dollars each way!) Thanks for your advice. Hope to see you in 2 weeks!

There are possibilities to take the bus to Chobolobo. A short walk from the cruise terminal, you will find the bus station. Ask there for the right bus to take you to the distillery.
The gelatos are definitely sold separately so the standard guided tour seems to be the right fit for you. You can always decide when you arrive.
Enjoy Curacao!

How far is it from the cruise ship port? Is it walking distance, or do we need an excursion? If the excursion is suggestion, what else do we link it to for the price?
Written 1 October 2016
A cheap way to get to the Distillery is to join an excursion at the Curacao Tourism kiosk (you will see it as soon as you cross the Pontoon bridge). They have reps who offer to take you on an open-air tour bus with a guide around the island for something like $15. Our guide was very knowledgeable. We enjoyed the tour.

I will be visiting Curacao in November as a cruise passenger. Faced with the prospect of transporting the liqueur, What would be a good way to get it home (ship/plane) if possible. It may not be possible.
Written 16 September 2016
A bottle from the Distillery will fit very nicely in your luggage. If in doubt contact the distillery directly by email and they can advise you if shipping is available. We had no problem with transporting the product in our luggage by plane.
