The Curaçao Sea Aquarium belongs to one of the most unique aquaria in the world. The reason being that, from the very beginning of the aquarium in 1984, the Sea Aquarium managed to create natural habitats for all its marine creatures without using sophisticated technical equipment. Due to an open-watersystem all the aquaria are in immediate contact with the open sea. It is this advanced pump system that continuously pumps fresh seawater directly in all the aquaria. Openings in the roof allow natural sunlight to fall directly on the aquaria, so there is no need to use artificial light sources. The combination of the open-watersystem and the natural sunlight create the natural circumstances that are needed to replicate the underwater world outside the aquarium. Everything in the aquaria, from the fish and corals to the sand on the bottom of the exhibition tanks, originates from the seas surrounding the island of Curaçao. Nothing in the displays is artificial, everything is 100% real. The same conditions apply to the lagoons in which the dolphins, sealions, sharks, rays and turtles are kept. The only thing that separates these lagoons from the open ocean are breakwaters built out of big rock boulders and an occasional fence, allowing fresh seawater to freely flow through all the lagoons. The Curaçao Sea Aquarium operates according to the principle that all animals need to be kept in circumstances that as much as possible mimic their natural living conditions. This goal is accomplished by employing all the available natural sources and resources surrounding the aquarium.

How did you get from the port to the aquarium and how much did it cost? 7 of us will be taking a cruise on Royal Caribbean and want to go to the aquarium.

We were excited to visit the aquarium and see native species. While the gift shop was clean and the staff courteous, the fish tanks were not clean and the specimens looked old and tired.

We visited the sea aquarium and attended both the sea lion and dolphin shows....can recommend both. The aquarium tanks, etc...are looking very tired. The shark feeding was beside a boat in a caged pen...not great. Seems like many were there for the dolphin adventure school. IF you have time and are looking for something to do...visit the sea aquarium.

This aquarium tries to educate as well as entertain. We learned a lot about sharks and the staff was quite knowledgeable. It is also quite conveniently located by other water sport facilities and public transportation.

This place was one of the better highlights of our trip. Granted we stayed next door at their same named time share which was great, but as far as attractions go, they do a great job. Don't forget the Sub trip at the end of the resort, it was awesome

Small, but had very interesting shows and reasonable activities. The trainers were knowledgeable and friendly. They seemed very caring to the animals.

We did the Turtle and Shark feeding excursion here from a Cruise ship. Great experience, lovely location, and afterwards we had full access to the rest of the Aquarium. You can also swim with Dolphins here. Recommend to make visit.

The dolphins and sea lion performances were very enjoyable. These mammals are very well taken care of. This is also a training facility. Great displays, some interactive. Tickets are $21.00 US. If you are a senior citizen (65 plus) with ID it's only $11.00 US. We stayed at the Sunscape resort which is about a 15 to 20 minute walk.... More

The Sea aquarium is no sea world but for such a small island it is nice. The dolphin sea academy is very nice and the trainers see to have a bond with these creatures

Let's start with the facility and tour we did (Sea Lion encounter) from a cruise ship... It was great from start to finish. The staff was excellent, the tour was great and personal. The facility was clean and we walked around watching the dolphins play. Overall, worth a visit, and we had a very enjoyable experience. Now the negative issue,... More
