Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Gazcue is a very nice, upscale neighborhood of SD. It's located next door to the Zona Colonial, west from it and north from Malecon sea side shore.
It's a grid like neighborhood with beautiful houses with lawns and parkways in front, which reminded me on wealthier parts of US cities. It's a stylish neighborhood we drove through every day, as our hotel was there. We found several good restaurants and the area is also home to the Presidential palace, several museums and National theater.

I grew up in Gazcue, Socorro Sanchez Street, #14, very close to Calle Lea De Castro. Around the corner was my grammar school, Instituto Escuela, one that I keep in my heart because it gave me lots of wonderful memories, our teachers and classmates will be impossible to forget. In my street and as well as the other streets near my home there were beautifully designed homes, ours was the first two story home built there in 1949 by the well known Arquitect Margarita Taule, one of the first female graduate in that area of expertise, last time I visited the neighborhood the interior of this originally nine bedroom family home owned by my family, Familia Canario, was retrofitted to house a day clinic, the exterior had been left intact. The families that originally built their homes in my street are obviously gone but the good memories still exist, I can even remember their names.

Years ago this neighborhood was a delightful and elegant place . Over the years it has suffered some significant decline and parts of it look run down . There are still some beautiful old houses to see with lovely garden , but lots of condo buildings are taking their place . Best to walk it during the day time , accompanied by others.

Gascue is the oldest neighborhood in Santo Domingo. The government should designate this area as historic and all of the old houses should be preserved for future generations.

Gazcue (although the correct spelling is Gascue) is the first housing area built outside the Old City. With houses built as early as the beginning of the XX century, this is an area you will enjoy walking around if you like architecture and nostalgic places. There are restaurants, cafeterias, even a couple of supermarkets in the area.

This community is a few steps away from the Colonial Zone with a great selection of nice shops and restaurants. There are also a great selection of bars and clubs.

In my personal opinion this is one of the loveliest neighborhoods in Santo Domingo because it's just so charming , full of character and the old houses are gorgeous. You can just take a stroll here and walk around to see the old homes of wealthy Dominicans , you can see the elaborate and ornate details of the houses! This area is def worth a visit !
