Some 20 min walk from the SD tourist zone of Zona Colonial will take you to this National Palace. It was built in the middle of 20 c under dictator Trujillo in a neoclassical style housing the National Parliament and President's office.
However you cannot pass the gates, nor tour the building which makes it only a 5 min stop for some outside pics, so decide yourself if it's worth that walk.

Our Tour Bus stopped here for some pictures.

We were not allowed inside the guarded gates.

While it looked nice, it was more of a quick photo opportunity and could have been skipped for other historical areas.

The awesome "Palacio Nacional" of the Dominican Republic dates from 1947 and its construction was envisaged by dictator Rafael Leónidas Trujillo Molina. The Italian architect Guido D'Alessandro Lombardi was commissioned for its project, which covers an extension of 18,000 square meters in the Gazcue quarter of Santo Domingo. The palace brings together characteristics of many different architectural styles, but could be easily classified as eclectic neoclassical. It is a working palace and houses the Executive branch of the Dominican government, including the offices of the President and of the Vice President. It is surrounded by manicured lawns and gardens, and is sided by a chapel devoted to "San Rafael Arcángel". Due to security restrictions, visitors are obviously not allowed in, but outside pictures can be taken from its guarded gates. Enjoy!

Every nation has a parlament as a symbol of the unit. It is also part of the city tour.
Heavily guarded military area.

This is the working National Palace for the Dominican Republic. Tourist are not allowed inside the gates, but our driver stopped by for a photo op. There are guards outside and take their job seriously. When I asked “photo pro vavor”? The one understood that I wanted our picture taken with the Palace in the background and the other thought I wanted his picture. However, the one guard explained what I wanted and they both laughed and took our pictures. It is worth the stop to see this stunningly beautiful Palace.

Our tour bus passed by this place and stop for people who wants to take pictures at its front gate. We were not able to get in as it is a working palace and understandable for security reason. I still enjoyed seeing it even though just beyond the gates and our tour guide gave us a brief history about the palace.

Would recommend to see.

While we did not have an opportunity to go inside, the National Palace is such a beautiful building well worth a photo op. Once the home of the President, it now house the offices of the President and Vice-President of the Dominican Republic. It has a reputation of being one of the most beautiful buildings in Santo Domingo. There are guards stationed outside the gates. The grounds are impeccably maintained.

A majestic place where a lot is discussed. I had the privilege to work for President Fernandez' first government, and with The World Bank in the Dominican Republic. This is a place where fundamental discussions on improving the life of dominicans, fomenting inclusive and sustainable development and promoting economic development, among other themes, are held and decisions are made. The building architecture goes back to colonial times and the surrounding neighborhood adds to its beauty. It's front side provides a beautiful view of the Caribbean see. It was originally built with the idea to serve as the President's Residence but no president has ever lived there.

Not a far walk from anywhere. View of the Caribbean Ocean. You can see the dome from many roof tops of many hotels. Palace guards are very friendly.
