As some have pointed out, the zoo is bordered on some sides (south) by some slums. That is why they have the armed men guarding the parking lot. I was grateful for their presence, although they did threaten me at gunpoint when I accidentally parked...More

We were so glad we listened to the positive comments about the Santo Domingo Zoo, we had a great day. The guy who made the previous comment about the animals being to far away to photograph, and having to pay extra for some exhibits is...More

One of the worst zoo experiences ever. Employees here are lazy and seem extremely uninterested in what they are doing. Poorly maintained with bad smells everywhere. Animals cannot be photographed well because there habitats are situated too far away from the public. Train tour is...More

While I appreciate the locals doing all they can in the name of nature conservation, this place was very depressing with its small spaces and sad animals: coming from Africa and having seen the real deal leaves this zoo poorly lacking. However, those not having...More

I must say this zoo in the biggest I have ever been. It has immense grounds however the feeling you get is that the animals are suffering. They are not well maintained and it is sad to just see them in their "habitat". For example,...More

Santo Domingo Zoo is big. Every animal appears to have lots of space, groups of them wander about as if they were home on the range and there are a lot of different ones. I hadn't realised Hippos had such enormous bums! You can even...More
