There are quite many attractions in Santo Domingo's Colonial Zone that are under-visited but infinitely more worthwhile to visit than El Conde - and this Museum of Resistance is one of those places. The subject matter is a narrowly focused one, and one can tell the curators put a lot of heart into it. There are huge amounts of information,... More

While well presented, and with excellent audio tour included in the ticket, this is just a bit too much for the usual tourist to absorb or appreciate.

To be honest, the layout here is average and there's not a lot of successful creativity in the presentation. That being said, the history is so important and so gripping that the museum definitely merits a visit. It's inexpensive and you can get a lot from it in an hour, though you could easily spend longer if you want to... More

This is a museum made by passionate people, about an hour of visit with intense immersion inside the dominican history. Something efficient to understand better this country.

We accidentally stumbled on this museum while walking from our apartment to the Colonial Zone. Probably the most professionally done and in the best shape of all the museums in Santo Domingo - clean, all the lights work, air conditioned, good audio narrative, etc. Perhaps it was so interesting to us because we had little knowledge of the recent history... I'm pleased I can't read Spanish as there was so much written information, it would have taken me a week to get around. As it was, with the audio tour (included in the entry price) I was able to hear the salient points and enjoy most of the museum. I knew very little of DR's modern history before I arrived,... More

to understand a very important chapter of the dominican history that still today defines the local culture, this is a must.

Although much of this museum is written and photographic material and is mainly in Spanish there is enough translated to make it understandable to English speakers. It is very revealing about what went on in the Trujillo regime, backed by the Americans and the Catholic Church, when dissidents were routinely tortured and executed and genocide was carried out on the...
