I’ve been to many H10s in Mexico and now Punta Cana. I have also been a lifelong water sport enthusiast: Snorkel, Scuba (certified), Waterski (barefoot), Kneeboarding, Sailing, Windsurfing, just to name a few… The full week I was in Punta Cana the weather was absolutely PERFECT for sailing, but there was one problem standing in the way of me fully enjoying my vacation experience… An “employee” by the name of Haviar. This individual is not suited for his station in life. From him I heard every excuse as to why I couldn’t go sailing: - “Covid” (But ALL other beach and water experiences was open.) - I have to “wait for The Captain”. - “If I let you go, then others will come and want to sail too.” - “Everyone is at lunch now.” (I offered to help bring the boat to the water and rig it myself, but Haviar said he couldn’t risk me hurting my back) - “The Navy will not permit it”, but when I asked where the “Navy ships” are, Haviar said the are on quads. (4 wheelers) …It went on and on like this for days, UNTIL… Haviar FINALLY agreed to let me go, but I had to be there in “1hour30”. Given the time he sent the text, that would mean at noon. I showed up at noon, and Haviar said I was early and would have to wait until 1:30PM. (He admitted his mistake) At that point he said “Fine, I will let you go, but ONLY this one time.”. There was more where he told me he speaks 5 languages: Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian… I had to laugh to myself, because all 3 of those languages are based off of Latin and are all but identical.🤣 Long story short: The REAL reason that Haviar didn’t want me to go sailing is because they don’t make money letting me go sailing, and they are lazy. To Haviar and the white Australian, enjoy your miserable life that your miserable attitude got you.

I had an excellent experience with Pelicano Sports at Ocean Blue and Sand. I am thankful for the great training and service provided by their PADI certified instructors! Javier and Carlos were very professional and knowledgeable. Without hesitation I recommend them for beginners or advanced divers training.

We spent 3 weeks at the hôtel Ocean Blue and Sand during the pandemic period. To occupy our 12, 10, and 10-year-old children, we offered them a diving certification. The Pelicano Sport diving company reassured us about the hygiene measures. Javier, Dave, and Carlos took care of the training of our children with great enthusiasm and we are proud to have three new divers in the family. Thank you to this team which continues to provide excellent service despite this health crisis.

If you’re a seasoned diver used to beautiful reefs teeming with marine life, don’t expect much here. I was so disappointed my first day diving. I saw a bunch of sand and brown rock. I reluctantly dove the next day, it was a little better, but not so much that I felt it was worth the time or money. Word of advice....don’t book more than a day, so you can see for yourself if you think it’s worth it. If you book several days, you may regret it like I certainly did....just my opinion.

It's deliriously difficult to find a scuba shop in Punta Cana - there's so many, of dubious quality, some with crappy equipment. Having had to find a shop in a similar situation in Thailand previously, I did my research on the PADI website as I trust dive shops with schools more. I was joyously surprised when I got onsite. Javier and Carlos (and others I met whose names I forgot) are incredibly professional, and the dive shop is well-stocked. I went for two morning dives past the reef in Bavaro. Despite wavy conditions, Carlos got us down to the reef at 12 metres deep. We save 2x Nurse Fish, 1x Moray Eel, 1x Porcupine Fish and a ton of other fish. More than I expected!
