Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Pre-arranged my trip before leaving for the Domincan Republic and that flowed smoothly. The transportation arranged by the charter was timely with our pickup set for 8:20. Arrived at the trip's embarkation point 8:40 and immediately my fishing cohort was pressured into buying something in their store. I was also told that as soon as we arrived on the fishing boat, our 4 hour window starts. Not good morning or how has your visit been? We were on a 42 foot vessel with a couple from Virginia and after 20 minutes of waiting, it was decided that our boat was down for repairs. We waited until they could get the 32 footer ready. Finally around 9:15, we idled out from our spot and headed towards the open water. We started fishing about 4 miles from shore with back and forth trips with insignificant bites. The half dozen wahoo they brought for bait didn't last long. The weak strikes we got ruined the bait. The crew finally called it quits and arrived back at 12:40, a little shy of our 4 hours.

This was a great time for very little money. 90.00 bucks for a split charter. We had about 6 people on the boat with 4 fishing. We started fishing about 1/2 mile off shore and didn't go out to much further... maybe 2 miles at the very most. We had some action but no one boated a fish. Very fiendly 1st mate and captain. I booked the trip via email, Bob and Chris got right back to me. They picked us up at the hotel and had no issues at all.

We were warned about the shady characters on the beach but because the hotel didn't offer anything I stopped by a vendor and had no money at the time He said no problem we will pick you up in the morning. True to his word he was on time and took us to the boat It was a well used Silverton but all looked good. The mate Luis worked as hard as any one I have ever seen We caught three nothing to brag about but a great day in all

Not sure where to start..shuttle ride to the place; shuttle out to the boat; filthy boat; food and drink??; head?
We'll the shuttle ride; we were picked up on time but then went to another hotel which I assume we were picking someone up. After 15 minutes of waiting we finally left. We stopped at a shop and told to get off. Looking around and not seeing any marina I asked is this fishing punta Cana location. Driver couldn't speak English but motioned for us to get off. All of us did and we were shown a way into a cheap souvenir shop which we walked through and lo and behold, there was the water.
We got into a filthy Panga style boat and sat with our feet in 3 inches of water. Arriving at the main fishing boat we climbed over the transom in heavy water. Now mind you we are not young and agile so this was a challenge to say the least!
We'll off to fishing. Captain did a good job of getting us through 5 to 7 foot surf until all of a sudden the first mate came flying through the cabin and out the window. Apparently something happened with the anchor chain on the bow.
Fishing consisted of trolling with 5 lines out, all with the same bait, all skipping the surface. After 2 1/2 hours of nothing, they tried something different; throw another line out with the same bait and skip it on top of the water. Hmm is this the definition of insanity? Try the same thing and hope for something different? I understand it is called fishing and not catching, but maybe try something different like troll something down a little bit? After all we were in 400 ft of water; not all the fish are on top.
Food??? Yea, ham and cheese sandwiches in plastic bags, not on ice and not sure when they were made. Don't think so.
Beer? Haven't seen 7 oz splits in a long time but there were 24 of them
Water was good though.
Head?? Yikes!! Can't even describe this but was absolutely disgusting!!
And at the end? We had to wait a half hour for our shuttle driver to pick us up. Did I mention that the folks that were on a 4 hour trip from the same place were waiting for an hour before we got in for the same shuttle!!!
All in all DONT SPEND YOUR MONEY HERE!!!!!

We booked a excursion called Gone Fishing
Well after arriving at a tacky souvenir shop, we were directed through to the back of it and given a life jacket, then told you must have a hat, so my wife had to go back into the shop and spend 15 Dollars on a 8 dollar base ball cap. Which turned out not to be true and was just the beginning of the con.
Then my wife, son, me and 5 others had to climb into a little boat from a tiny beach at the back of the shop to the boat. When we got to the boat there were no steps to climb up. You just had to wait for the swell of the water to rise about 4 foot then jump for your life and hope you timed it right!. None of the crew spoke English so communication was next on nil.
The captain who called him self Chino, waved me and my family upstairs to the upper deck, without firstly being rude to me, as I am a large man he tapped my stomach and said bambino. How I did not loose my cool my wife said as who did he think he was talking too.
Once on the top deck there were no cushioned seating, just plain plastic benches which double up for storage boxes.
Well that's where we sat and another couple from Michigan for 4 hours as at no stage were we shown or instructed on how to deep sea fish. The non English speaking crew could not answer any questions as the did not understand. They done all the baiting of the 4lines which all they did was drag on the surface of the waves the whole time we were out. Did I mention the captain thought shouting out to the sea fishy fishy would impress us, we were certainly not impressed. Luckily the other couple had been fishing before in Florida so they could tell us what was going on. We were offered water or flat pepsi.
What a waste of a half days holiday and one of the crew on the way back had a cheek to ask for a tip for the captain and him. Finally back in the souvenir shop were e started. They keep you waiting on purpose for your return transfer and try to hard sell you some old tatt
We booked this through Thomson holidays. They need to get away from behind their desks and try out these excursions they are recommending on their Webb site to pre-book in advance

Do not book it was the worst deep sea fishing trip I have ever been on. We got on the boat and there was not enough rods for all of us so we had to go back to the HQ and get to more rods go all the way back out ( witch took an hour ) that was a waste. We got out there and we smelt a diesel fume so we all were sick 😷😷🚣. I thought we were going to die cos the waves were so big. A 60 year old lady got thrown across the deck 😧😧😢

We booked a half day fishing excursion through Nexus Tours. We paid $800 for the trip. Nexus booked the trip through Just Fishing... although I can not find any information on them on the web. The boat my family was one was old and there were fumes for the boat that were suffocating. My children were sick within 30 minutes of leaving shore... throwing up all over. They suggested they go below cabin.. which is the worst place to go... and the vapors were even worse below then above. They returned to shore immediately. Nexus will not return our money... They have no control over the service after you book. if that is the case... do not book through NEXUS and be wary of these tour companies as they do n9t take accountability for what they are selling you. Check out the boats first... before booking.

My wife and I were on our honeymoon and were really looking forward to a day on the water. A shuttle picked us up at our hotel but then waited for another couple who eventually never showed up. We then headed to another resort to pick up the 3rd couple. When we arrived at the dock, we were the first people there. We were even more excited that it would only be 4 of us fishing instead of the 6. we were told to wait, and as we waited shuttle after shuttle arrived and people were loaded onto their boats. We were told they were waiting for the captain. 30 minutes later we were told the boat would start. we were then told they had another boat and a captain from another boat was headed back in. 30 minutes after that we were told that boat was broke as well. The fact was that they did not want to send a group of 4 out. The 4 of us missed out on a possible once in a lifetime experience. As we were being driven back to our hotels we were told we could come back in the afternoon. Absolutely terrible.

Booked 5 hour fishing trip on internet. I have chartered many trips before and I expect the boat to be at a marina. We were picked up and driven 45 minutes by a driver who spoke no English and could not answer any questions. I knew we were in trouble. Pulled up to a very scary little store and told to get out. Now my Wife was really nervous. In the back of the store was a little beach and off the beach were some really OLD boats anchored off the beach. My Wife and I looked at each other and said NO WAY and asked for a ride back to our hotel. I did expect some argument but there was none. The driver promptly drove us back and all we were disappointed as we lost 1.5 hours of time and did not get to fish in the DR. There is some good news. They did promptly refund my deposit which was made on paypal. While I really expected a fight, since I refused to charter, they did honor the refund. Sorry Punta Cana Fishing Charters, 1 star is appropriate and I would not recommend this charter if you expect a nice boat with decent gear.

I was undecided if I should get my deepsea fishing tour from the hotel and pay a lot of money or if I should get it from Tuti Fruiti which was not part of the hotel, the locals would have been cheaper. I went to the politour officer and I asked him for his advice. He said no problem, I know these people you have nothing to worry about. The night before I reserved a boat for my son and I for $350 for the 4 hour trip, this was after bringing it down from $700. I gave them a $50 deposit that day and the next morning I woke up and you could hear the wind blowing, cloudy and rainy. I went to the owner of the boat and I asked him if we were still going, because I didn't want to lose my deposit. He said yes, don't worry, this weather is not too bad and soon the breeze will calm down and we will go. So we sat down and waited for about an hour, then all of a sudden the owner of the boat, Robert, he says OK it's time to go. So I went. The minute I arrived at the boat, the captain asked me if I wanted to go and I said the owner of the boat told me to come and now you are asking me if I want to go? I paid the balance and we left. We went outside to where the waves break and it was very rough. But I was having a good time. All of a sudden the captain turns the boat around and comes back. The entire thing was less than 20 minutes, we didn't even put our rods in the water. They do this on purpose, you go past that point to where it is very rough so that you will get seasick on purpose, then they will turn the boat around and you lose your money. I lost my $350. They wouldn't refund me and I couldn't go another day as that was my last day in Dominican. I went to the hotel and I tried to complain and they told me that there was nothing they could do. They told me they would call the security to see if there was anything they could do. I told them I had already spoken with them. There was nothing Politour could do either, they get a commission from them, thats why they are allowed to advertise their business on the beach, its corrupt. If you book a tour, better to pay extra and book with the hotel than to pay $350 for nothing. And even at the hotel, you can still negotiate the price. My other advice, is try to go straight to the owner of the business, this way you won't be paying commissions to others, this is what makes the excursions more expensive.
