Perhaps our favorite waterfall we visited. Short walk down and back, entrance not very well marked but several mens were standing directing because they wanted you to pay them to be your guide. We did not use a guide, path is very well marked once you pay at the entrance. There was 1 group of 5 when we got there, once they left we had the falls to ourselves for at least 39 mins until the next group arrived. Nice little swim.

The waterfall is easy to reach via a constructed path. Great swimming. We were there on Labor Day and were invited by a family to join Oil Down for dinner and Lime. Children performed spectacular stunts at the bottom of the waterfall and women did laundry in the river. Very local atmosphere on holidays and also on weekends.

The lower & upper falls both have very nice swimming pools so wear some swimwear. Its a small hike but not extreme at all. There are a couple food vendors at the switchback corner where you park & walk in. The sign is the entrance. Just looks like a house but there is a trail between. Entrance fee is $5ecd NO Guide Required for this trail...

If you are tired of pushy guides and threats of vandalism to your parked car, there is a simple way around it. When you are just about to the falls parking, you will need to make a hard right to go down to the parking. Just as you are about to make the right, if you look, there is a small store that has a Royal Mount Carmel Falls sign above it. If you stop and ask the owner how to get to the falls, he will take you to the path and then volunteer to lead you down to it. He even closed his shop to take us. On the way, we stopped and enjoyed some of the local fruit growing on the trees along the path. He will take you to the big falls and then lead you to the smaller one where he will point out the safe places where you can slide. The walk is about 5 to 7 minutes at a leisurely pace. It is not a difficult walk by any stretch. Then he will beg off and go back to his shop. We were the only people in this beautiful waterfall of crystal clear water with an amazing pool to swim in at the bottom. The slides are great, just stay on the recommended ones. If you don't, you might just get a bruised bum and have a little trouble setting in a chair for a few day.(Not that I would know anything about that) After enjoying it for an hour or so, we walked over to the bigger fall. It is beautiful and we walked through it but there is not much you can do there. It beats on you pretty hard when you walk through it. It is great. The walk back was about 5 to 10 minutes. When we got back to the shop, we purchased 2 cokes and a bottle of water for a total cost of 9EC (about 2.43 US), and went on our way. It is a great way to spend a couple hours on a hot afternoon.

We enjoyed visiting this falls and exploring the area around it. We did not have a guide for the walk, and were not pressured to take a guided walk. We were able to enjoy the walk to the falls at our own pace and stay as long as we wanted to. The falls was beautiful with a natural pool that you could swim in if you chose to. The walk along the river was equally interesting if you are adventuresome and cross the river to the hiking trails on the other side where there is another falls. Royal Mount Carmel falls is easily accessed by public buses that stop at the entrance. Definitely a worth while area to spend some time exploring!!

We were trying to get to the falls without being chaperoned - but it proved an impossibility. Firstly you'll not find the access point on your own (you almost wonder if someone had removed any signs). The access is near the junction on the main road. You'll get a rough idea by the people waving at your car/trying to flag you down!
We resigned ourselves to having a guide - seemed no other option. Two guides argued about who saw us first. The security guard (most Grenada sites seem to have security guards) told us it was EC$2.50 each. Considering it was supposed to be free...but hey ho. Seemed payment was to some slightly dubious individual in a shop/cafe whose premises abutted the access point.
Reasonable walking shoes recommended - even if just trainers.
The falls are fine. Probably massive by Grenadian standards but somewhat more modest compared to others we have encountered. That said the area was very pleasant (and enjoyed by us, our three kids, the guide and his two dogs).
There is the waterfall at the top and then a pool at the bottom that can swim in.
On the walk back up was met by the security guard (I'm assuming they are all state-sponsored). At the top the EC$2.50 per person was reduced down to just EC$5 in total for the two adults. But then paid the guide EC$40. As well as describing the occasional tree he was very clear about the 'going rate' for his services.
At the end of the day; we saw a nice waterfall and got a bit more Grenadian culture all for EC$45. It was interesting and fun.
We all parted best of friends and the guide waved to us whilst clasping a freshly bought beer in his other hand.

This set of waterfalls is a hidden gem, only know to the locals. Cruise ships do not run excursions here, but for $5EC you can hope on the #4 bus and get here in about 40 mins. there is a $2entry few as it is on private property.
We got a tour guide "Akim" who was wonderful helping keep my fair Sheryl from falling while climbing some the rocks to get to the falls.
There are two sets of Falls about a 5-10 min hike, the taller ones look like a bridal veil and have the longest plunge on the island at over 65feet. Jumping in behind the falls is quite refreshing.
The lower falls have a "natural slide" there are two levels two it, the lower one is about 15 feet worth of sliding, and if you take the upper you get about a 40 foot slide in total.
If you have a "guide" you maybe be able to visit the neighbouring property. He has a small garden built upon an old sugar plantation, the ruins are stunning and he was a very gracious host. He gave us fresh fruits and spices to try, some homemade moonshine, it was wonderful

This trip was truly memorable. The waterfall is a beautiful sight and a true adventure. I don’t think that a tour guide is necessary, but I would definitely get very clear instructions before heading down the trail. Be sure to go down the “slide” while you visit. The “slide” is a hidden spot along the stream where the stream drops over the rocks. It looks scary, but it is perfectly safe as long as you go down the middle path. I definitely recommend going here if you visit grenada.

Wow -- I hesitate giving good reviews and hope this waterfall is the same in 20 years. When you near the intersection and a man jumps out at you, waving you down, do stop. He is there to be your guide. We might not have found the entrance on our own, let alone the second waterfall and natural slide. Another reviewer commented that jobs are hard to come by in this area of Grenada and at least these men are trying to earn an honest buck -- I agree. Our guide led us to the big waterfall, waited patiently for everyone to swim in the beautiful pool there. He then led us back to a second falls that was smaller, but had one area that you could "slide" down (worked better for some than others). Only one area of the falls was safe for the slide and he escorted the kids right to the proper spot. They had a ball. He again waited patiently for as long as we wanted to play in the water.
We were all alone here and loved it so much went back two days later. Please keep it clean if you visit! We picked up one or two pieces of trash but hope it stays the way it is.

Our group of 6 adults and 5 children went by taxi from Cabier in the direction of Grenville. At the left turning signed Royal Mount Carmel Falls there is a bus shelter and there we met Bolo who offered his services as a guide to the falls. As it had rained heavily the night before it was very muddy on the path to the falls, and Bolo was extremely attentive in helping the adults and at times carrying the children on the steeper and slippery parts of the trail. After about 20 minutes we arrived at the falls and those who wanted to stripped off to their swimming kit and climbed towards the falls. Some went right under the falls and had a high pressure shower. Bolo then led us downstream to a large pool where most of the group swam. Some went under the small falls, but no one was tempted to go down the natural water slide. We saw other visitors going down the slide and some diving off the heights at the side. The walk back to the road took about 20 minutes through tropical trees and foliage. We sampled a bright red looking fruit growing wild in the woods by the trail. It tasted like a sweet pear. Bolo climbed the tree to pick them for us. Bolo had arranged for our driver to pick us up by the road to save a long climb up the road to where we had started. Bolo can be thoroughly recommended as a guide, as can Akim who led another group. We paid Bolo 60 EC dollars for his guiding. Excellent value and a tour well worth doing.
