La Desirade is not a part of Grande-Terre, it's a small island about 20km away from St. Francois, and it takes about 45 min to get there by boat (27 Euro per person). I've been living out here for a little while and it's so so beautiful. Unlike the other islands, it is no so touristy, and so I feel like you get a much better impression of true Guadeloupean life. The wildlife is also excellent, with huge iguanas across the island, hummingbirds and a montain covered in almost untouched forest and undergrowth.... More

We took the ferry from and to Saint-Francois on the new Babou One which took about 45 minutes. This island has mainly one 11-kilometre departmental road that runs along the south side of the island. Other than being picked up and dropped off at the ferry by hotel staff and doing an organized tour, we decided to walk and hitchhike... More
