Built during an era of elegance and brutality, Greenwood has retained the atmosphere of the 19th century and continues to capture the imagination of its visitors. The house was built by the Barretts of Wimpole Street London in 1800. Unique among local plantation houses, Greenwood survived unscathed during the slave rebellion of Christmas 1831. It still has most of its original furniture including the largest and rarest collection of musical instruments and books in the island.

If you want a break from the beach or pool and have one hour to spare for a trip back in time, Greenwood Great House is highly recommended. A very knowledgeable guide gives a thorough tour of the interior of the house. An incredible collection of artifacts, art, furnishings, and musical instruments -- many of which are in working condition.... More

A great way to get an idea how life was back in the days at least for the rich people. But also gives you a glimpse into the life of the servants. Loved the musical instruments and the view. Our guide was a bit hectic.. we would have loved to ask many more questions.

Lovely place to visit but the tour guide was quite monotone and was mainly explaining the exhibits rather than giving us a history of the house , the people, and the impact of slavery on the area which is what we had expected the tour to be about

We really enjoyed our tour of the Greenwood Great House - we liked it better than Rose Hall. The furnishings were varied and lovely. The tour gave us a good idea of what life was like in that era.

Wanting to avoid the haunted Rose Hall (which we thought our children might find too scary) we decided to visit the other Manor House in the Montego Bay Area. We were very pleasantly surprised and intrigued by the many treasures that lie within this house and help you get a very up-close view of planter's life on this beautiful island.... More

Our Greenwood Great House visit and tour was very good. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and engaging and she knows the property inside and out. The tour was conducted at a good pace, and included just enough history to hold the interest of most of our group. Not an exciting afternoon, but for those interested in learning more about Jamaica... More

Three of us visited the Greenwood Great House which was an excellent visit - the house is well preserved with some of the musical antiques still in working order and were demonstrated by our guide Sweetie who was knowledgable, friendly, polite and funny. She is a true treasure in the house. The views are amazing for almost 180 degrees -... More

Not really worth it. The guides were monotone and the place in itself although has a lot of original and old furniture, it just wasn't worth the time and money

This Great house visit was a true example of people appreciating what history is. It was a walk through time and some thing I will never forget. I recommend this location for those that want to see and hear of rich history. The layout of the house has been left the way it was from so many decades ago.
