As you exit the Cathedral, cross the street and head towards tge small park and head towards the bay. Keep walking and you will see this centuries old gate- La puerta de San Juan. It leads out to El Paseo La Princesa. The gate itself honors St. John and dons a tiny chapel on top. The side has some stepped... More

Walk through the gate and turn left to see a beautiful tree, and pass a couple of gardens worth photographing

You're in San Juan so you gotta see this little bit of history. For centuries, visiting dignitaries from Spain would enter San Juan through this gate. It doesn't look like much today, but I love the idea of walking on the same cobblestones as the Spaniards of old. This is easy to get to so add this to your itinerary.

The red gate, wall and path were some of the first views of the city coming in on our cruise ship so knew we would visit before we left. The red gate’s role use to be the formal entrance to the city and if you weren’t inside the gate by dark you were locked out til morning now - anyone... More

Just because all of the history associated with the early days of San Juan seemed to revolve around this geek as an entry would be enough of a reason to make it a checklist item of things to see when you are visiting.. If you don't happen to get to see it, it wouldn't be a major loss.

If you are in Old San Juan a visit to the "San Juan Gate" is highly recommend. It's quite picturesque and is a relaxing stroll along the wall back to the rest of Old San Juan. There are local artisans along the way and a gigantic, fantastic tree to relax under if you just feel like sitting still. And best... More

You don't need a long to visit here, but it is a piece of history of San Juan as it is was the gate for Spain dignitaries and the only gate out of five left. So while you are here you can read the sign and then go for a walk along the wall and foreshore. TIP: view the gate... More

You can exit the historic and photogenic San Juan Gate when you embark on the highly recommended coastal trail walk. Just don't forget to turn around and look back for a great picture!
