We were lucky and had a guide, but we could easily have done the trail by ourselves and seen a great deal. Going with someone who knew the trail made it even better since there are many things of interest that aren't readily apparent - fruit trees that are unfamiliar, rubber trees, and you have to watch out for wasps... We started from the trail behind the Hilltop Café. Fortunately we had some notes that told us how to get to the trail proper - ie head up the hill, go right at the not well marked junction then left up a concrete road, when you get to a gate and water tank go along the fence on the left,... More

This trail will take you to the jungle rain forest, you'll come across giant trees, former banana plantations which still give fruit mixed with the overgrown jungle. Wear good hiking shoes, bring some drinking water and enjoy montserrat's best.

Quite a steep hike to get to the start of the trail, but worth it. This trail is very steep! The Montserrat trail map lists it as moderate, but I would disagree! However, the view from Lawyer's Mountain is worth it. I would also hire a trail guide who could describe the plants and birds you see.

This is one of Montserrat's more-walked trails, which isn't saying it's crowded (I've yet to meet anybody on it). It just means that it's regularly maintained. Still, it's rough and occasionally slippery so I wouldn't advise doing it after a lot of rain. It's the best way to get a look in on the jungle aspect of Montserrat, and an... More

This hike starts just above the Hilltop Cafe behind the blue water tank. Make sure you have good hiking sneakers. Some places are very steep. Also, take binoculars for the view at the top and to look at the Orioles if you're lucky enough to see them. We were not. It was a 45 minute walk to the top of... More

It is located high in the hills, and set perfectly. Makes an easy one hour to two hours walk, and you can see plenty of plants, birds, butterflies and other nature. but to really enjoy it and get maximum advantage - consider hiking woth an amazing guide, the Scribber. Mr. Scribber is a legend in itself, and he works not... More

i started up Oriole trail, but decided I wanted to reach the mountain peak. This was a near disaster as the rain forest without a trail is quite treacherous. Once I found the trail on the steep descent it was a relatively simple walk. The trail meanders through thick forests with occasional glimpses of the blue caribbean

Great walk - 2.5 hours one way, taking it easy, plenty of water required (Platypus system perfect). Led by James "Scriber" Daly, who knows EVERYTHING there is to know about the trail - an absolute highlight - and that was before I saw the female Oriole.....
