Morne Fortune is a panoramic view point above the St. Lucia capital. I wouldn't suggest going on foot as it's a steep climb up.
By car it's around 5 to 10 min. Views are really great - you see the capital, surrounding hills and the port beneath you.
Beware, it can be pretty crowded and difficult to park when cruisers are in the port.

Spectacular views really abound here. My wife and I stopped off while on a short tour and enjoyed the experience. The site is very busy but the views are worth the effort. Great spot for those photographs that invoke wonderful memories later.

Our cruise ship excursion included a brief visit to St. Marks, a house located on a steep hill/Morne Fortune that offered excellent views of Castries harbor. The van, seating 15 tour passengers, was the perfect vehicle to maneuver the steep road with tight curves that lead to St. Marks and its narrow driveway.
The 2 story white colonial style house only offers the first level to be viewed by visitors. In the spacious dining room, our tour guide pointed out all of the room's features from the paintings on the wall by local artists, to the china in the cabinets, to the local woods used in the furniture. The table was not set. The living room was very long and was filled with cheerful colored overstuffed furniture, a Chinese cabinet, grand piano, side tables, large area rugs over a wood plank floor, and many photos of the original owner and his family. The owner, a Scotsman, who had made his money in shipping, married a local woman. Both hobnobed with St. Lucia's finest. On the piano, among family pictures, there even was a photo of the young Clintons who had visited. Between the living room and dining room were fine examples of intricate wood carvings on small cabinetry on top of which sat artifacts like an old cash registar, a manual typewriter, and a land phone. Light refreshments which included rum punch and banana chips were served on the verandah from which wonderful views overlooked the Castries harbor, Reduit Beach to Pigeon Island. The grounds were limited to the front yard due to the steep slope of the property. Our visit lasted about 45 minutes. Perhaps this house is only open to cruise tours which usually bundle together a stop at St. Marks house with several other stops on the island. Other stops on our tour included La Toc Battery, the fishing village of L'Anse la Raye, and Marigot Bay.

Fab views you can walk around here and look at the views and the local architect .
This is a residential area and very quiet please take precautions as its close to Ciceron which has been known for high crime rate in the past . Due to the tranquil location don't visit alone but do visit it's a big part of St Lucia

After a meandering drive up through the Morne area you are treated to some of the best views over Castries. It is a very historic area and there are forts buildings and interesting sights galore. It is really worth the trip. The old colonial house of St. Mark's is an interesting place to stop off for food and for a look around a house built in 1887. The parking is not easy though and I would recommend that you reverse up the steep drive.
The house is full to bursting with bulky furniture and a guide tells you about the history. The living room has colourful carpets and furniture with striped upholstery, family photos and a piano. Over 95% of the hand made furniture is St. Lucan. There are portraits of the wealthy merchant owner and his wife who lived in St. Marks until the mid 20th century. The dining room had a large table with fantastic crystal swans as a centerpiece and cabinets filled with crystal and china. The toilets are accessible. As it is up in the hills the views are fantastic and we ate on the veranda and enjoyed the views over the harbour. The breeze was welcome too. We had home made chicken pie, quiche, banana cake, coconut cake and tea or sorrel juice. LOVERLY. They had refreshments and souvenirs for sale on the porches also.

On the way up this Hill of Good Luck, is the Governor General's private residence, one of the few British Colonial style buildings that has not been burned down in one of the many historical fires of Castries. there is a wonderful city view from here.
The remains of Fort Charlotte stand at the top of Morne Fortune, the fort being the scene of much of the fighting between the French and the English, due to it's strategic position. The remains of the old military buildings have been restored/converted into an education complex. the remains of fortifications, gun places, and canons can still be seen.

Just a quick stop for a very good viewpoint. If your cruise ship is docked here, it makes a great take home shot.

A short stop is all you really need here, just to make some nice photos of Castries, its harbour, your cruise ship (?), etc. On the top of the hill there are some old military buildings, a college, a war cemetery, some canons and guns, etc. All-in-all Morne Fortune does not look very attractive, the place itself looks dated and grey.

Morne Fortune is worth visiting as it is the old part of Castries and when you reach the top of the morne( french word for hill) the view of the Castries Harbour day or night is breathtaking. Inexpensive attraction. you can get there by taxi or on the local bus. easy access. don't take too much money with you if you do not need to. Be vigilant as you would be in your home town. quite nearby is the Governor General's residence. beautiful old building with history attached.

It's called Morne Fortune meaning Hill of fortune. It's a beautiful place especially the elevation. From there you get to view the City in all it's splendour. Also a view of the highest mountain in Saint Lucia which is Mount Gimie alongside the twin Pitons. So amazing and breathtaking place. Also very lovely place that is close to the City but not so very close. (15 minutes). It's quite breezy and is overlooking the Castries (City). Very cool place to relax and take photos.
