The views from Ride Road are spectacular. From the highest peak on Tortola you can look down to the stunning bays with their sailing vessels, amd also spot surfers out ready to ride. The vegetation is lush and the flowers beautiful.

I took taxis for 3 days before deciding to try my hand at driving on the "correct" side of the road over these mountain passes. I am from New Hampshire, so various road conditions are nothing new, but this was a trip! I don't know that I have anything to complain about when I go home! The twists and turns,... More

We drove all over Tortola and found the roads to be quite unlike anything we've seen before. Very few street signs exist which make navigating a challenge, never mind that the steepness of the roads. Holy cow some of them just go straight up (or down!). Many of them are in bad condition and are questionable at best. Luckily locals... More

Twists and turns and switchbacks make for a fun drive up and down Tortola. Nothing prepares you for these roads! Gorgeous views!

Driving on Tortola is an adventure: --the island is mostly a mountain; most roads go up or down, and often, some with impossible looking switchbacks which will activate your car's antilock brakes; --driving is on the left, which may not be in your comfort zone; --roads are narrow, and many are not in the best condition; --you'll be largely unfamiliar... If you rent a car in Tortola, be sure you understand that driving is not easy. Ridge Road and many others are poorly maintained, mountainous and twisty and have minimal signage. We could not find a good map, even from our rental agency. Oh yes, and they drive on the left in right-had drive cars.

The reviews here are all pretty accurate... windy, hilly, narrow, potholed, often under construction, and not well marked (Google maps was a lifesaver). And yet, what is the alternative (other than a yacht?). On the positive side, lovely views from many spots. The other drivers are generally courteous. After driving it for 5 days, it was a very manageable experience.... More

ridge road is an exciting driving experience if you have a car. the island of tortola is rugged, and ascends to a tropical rainforest at it's peak (sage mountain national park). the paved road to sage mountain runs from the western part of the island and heads east, through a series of crazy switchbacks, along various ridges, and offers amazing... You can see several islands from the top, great scenery. We went here during a tour of the island and got to see some of the island coves, views of the cruise ships, some interesting switch-back curves, etc. You should see this part of the island if you go.
