The most intact historic ruin on Tortola was built by the Dutch in the early 17th century to safeguard Road Harbour. It sits on a hill at the western edge of Road Town and is now the site of a small hotel and restaurant. The foundations and magazine remain, and the structure offers a commanding view of the harbor. COST: Free. Daily dawn-dusk.

I live on St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands, and run an annual sailboat charter flotilla with Conch Charters in Road Town. The night before we sail, we all stay at Fort Burt Hotel. This year, we had 26 people the night before the charter, and 22 people the night after the charter ended. Fort Burt was perfect, as always! There... More

The fort burt hotel structure has numerous falling and trip hazards and should be visited if you have kids. Railings are loose, too low or too high in hallways and room areas.

We spent one night as guests of the Fort Burt Hotel, at the end of our bareboat charter. The hotel suited our needs and was unremarkable. Dinner was another thing, as we were very pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food and our server Maya (spelling?) Maya was professional and entertaining. Everyone in our group, 8 in all, thoroughly... More

The hotel could be lovely. It is terraced into a steep hill with a beautiful view of the ocean and marina across the street. Our room was very plain, but it had all the basics. Don't expect luxury. There were some sand fleas which attacked my ankles. I learned quickly to keep my shoes on, and purchased some Off bug... More

Fort Burt was clean, comfortable, convenient and a value prior to our yacht charter out of TMM. When we got to the island, the humidity was oppressive, and the air conditioned room was a welcome sanctuary. The hotel was nice enough to hold the kitchen open for our groups late arrival also.

Perfect for an overnight stop if using either of the charter bases just outside the entrance. We arrived near midnight and were checked in by " Bert " who was also our barman for our travel de stress before retiring for the night. Excellent breakfast with super views and just a five minute walk put us on our charter boat.

Location was just what we needed. The hotel is pretty cool since its an old fort but it is long overdue for a renovation. Tile missing in bathroom, bedspread was old (which I never understand), no coffeemaker in room or coffee in lobby. That is unusual for a hotel. Our last morning the water was off so we could not... At this point it's just the foundation and a few plaques and a cannon or two. If you are really into history its worth a walk but other than that its skipable.

A very nice hotel with a great location in the heart of Road town but the majority of the staff just are not very friendly! A young man that works the night shift was the most helpful of all and extremely cordial towards us but others seemed to care less if we were there or not! Maybe it is something... More
