- Kimberly BGrove City, Ohio7,475 contributionsShort tourist stop with not much to seeThis is a tourist area and going is just a cutesy little "I've been to hell" moment just to say you did it. There were sharp rock formations out back with some water between it and that's about it. The guy that worked there handed us a few props with devil ears and a pitchfork for pictures but we didn't see any of the other things in pictures we seen here. It looks like there was some type of restaurant or bar inside at one point but no longer open. Then there's a small gift shop in front where you can buy a postcard and have them send it to back home stamped from hell. All I can say is thankfully they don't charge a fee to enter.Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten 24 October 2023
- Jmoulton_MaineWest Bowdoin, Maine33 contributionsHe’ll Post Office is worth the trip! The Hell Post Office is a gem! 25¢ Cayman to send a postcard to US; all mail is hand postmarked w/“Hell” mark! There are pens available for writing postcards, and the woman working the desk was VERY helpful and kind. Bonus was the sale of philatelic souvenirs at very reasonable prices!Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 12 November 2023
- Samantha M1 contributionDisappointed :-(While visiting Grand Cayman on a cruise we decided to head to "Hell". When we arrived, we decided to walk around the area and visit Post Office and souvenir stores. As we walked near the entrance to get a picture with the main sign, we were stopped by a man selling coconuts at the front of the property. I was unsure of him because he looked very unkept and smelled very odd. Almost like moldy clothes. As were inquiring about them he informed us that it was $5 and that he also sold Marijuana. We were in shock! We had just come from Jamaica and the experience was HORRIBLE! Everywhere we went in Jamaica we were pushed to buy Marijuana. It was disgusting. We will never disembark in Jamaica again!! A lady we had met on the tour bus from our ship relieved our fears from Jamaica that Grand Cayman would not be so, as she had been several times and Marijuana was illegal in Grand Cayman and that we should also experience a more pleasant experience as the locals were much nicer. She was also who recommended visiting "Hell". She told us she enjoyed sending Post Cards to family from the Hell Post Office and the souvenirs were cute (We did get a few). We were just so disappointed because even after we refused explaining that we did not smoke, he still insisted that we purchase some marijuana. And was very aggressive about it. We said we would be back to get away from him, and decided to buy a coconut from the dock where we landed on the way back. Overall, the Grand Cayman experience was great, and we will visit again just not likely to go back to "Hell"! especially if that man is still there!Dear Ms. Samantha, Thank you for sharing your recent experience at the Hell Geological Site. We sincerely apologize for the discomfort caused by the encounter with an individual near the entrance. The authorities have been notified to address this matter promptly and ensure the safety of our visitors. It is disheartening to hear that your experience was impacted, especially after the positive expectations set by a fellow traveler's recommendation. Your feedback is invaluable as we strive to maintain high standards at the Hell Geological Site and provide a positive experience for all guests. In the spirit of "CaymanKind," we are committed to fostering a welcoming environment for visitors to the Cayman Islands. Once again, thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. We value your patronage and look forward to the opportunity to be of service to you in the future. So much fun! Its a small field filled with black jagged rocks. But you go for the experience! Now...I need to share our story. I had a,few small dollar bills in my pocket. My husband had our real money and credit cards in his wallet. We took a tour bus to hell from the cruise port for $8 each which I paid. We got to Hell. Spent a couple minutes looking at the rocks. The post office was closed. There were 3 tiny shops next to the lookout platform. We went into the middle one to look at souvenirs. We then realized my husband forgot his wallet on the cruise ship. There we were with no money. It was like 100 degrees. We didn't know how to get back to the cruise ship and didn't have any money to do so anyway. The woman who owns the shop in the middle overheard us. She was in her 80s, sweet as can be and seemed to really have physical issues. This amazing woman, Mabel, insisted on giving us money. She opened her little purse from the cash drawer. She gave us $40 which looked to be literally about half of what she had. We told her no. She insisted. (we are sending her money and a gift when we get home)/ She really came to our rescue! But please... If you go there, buy something from Mabels shop. She didn't have much inventory but its totally deserved!Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 27 December 2023

This was our first trip to the Cayman Islands and everyone who had ever visited the Island said, “You have to Go to HELL!” So with these comments, we headed for Hell on a bus from our condo on Seven mile Beach. The public bus was easy and inexpensive. They dropped us off at a run down building which was a gift shop. There was a small area toward the back of the parking lot with some black rocks and a weird wood statue of the devil. That was it! We walked further down the street and saw a very large building with a beer sign and my husband thought, hey let’s stop for a beer! Well, once we got to the building, there was no operating bar, but we were met by a Father and Son who owned the building and surrounding area. The Son was extremely knowledgeable about where the rocks came from and how Hell got its name. This area in comparison was much bigger and very interesting to look at verses the first stop where the bus left us off. We took a few pictures and were on our way. This tourist spot (if you could call it that) is in a residential area. We walked about a mile to the Cracked Conch restaurant as we were not able to find a bus going back in that direction. Not a bad walk and we felt safe. Overall, if you want to say you have been to HELL and back, you may want to check it out, but not a “must stop” in my option.

I was here 5 years ago also and both times I’ve sent a postcard from hell to people at home but never came. I can understand once but twice now? It was only a dollar but with the amount of people who go there that’s a lot of 1 dollars to scam out of people.

We visited Hell as on of our stops on a tour through Carnival. We visited Hell on September 14, 2022 while cruising onboard the Carnival Horizon. Our Driver was Jaime and he was very entertaining telling us much about the grand Caymans as we went through the town. I personally enjoyed visiting hell it was fun experience and a chance to say we had been there. We got our passport stamped. Got a few postcards and some shirts and visited the rock formations we even took pictures. w did get delayed in Hell for while as one of the people on our tour went missing. Turns out she got on the wrong bus as there were three in our tour going the same places. But our tour guide and the people who own the shop were very attentive and helpful in trying to find her and doing everything they could to help.

Our tour stopped here and we specifically booked it because we’d heard about Hell for years and how it’s a must stop. It isn’t. Neat rocks that take maybe 5 minutes to see. Cheap souvenirs. Annoying devil man trying to get you to purchase said souvenirs. Can get passport stamped but thought they’d have a much more creative stamp. Can also mail a postcard from Hell to US from their post office. Tried and ours never came, but somehow the one we sent my sister in law did make it, so you’ll have mixed success. If you like kitschy stuff and cheap souvenirs this is your spot but there’s so many better ways to spend your time in Grand Cayman.

This is worth the 10 minute stop, just to send some postcards and have them postmarked from Hell. It's on the route back from the beaches or turtle center to Georgetown.
The black limestone "hellish" rocks in the back do look other worldly. There was a gentleman out there to explain how it formed. An empty club behind the post office was opened by Bob Marley!
Bring your passport to get a "Hell" stamp in it. I had to settle for buying some amusing postcards that they stamped and marked from Hell.

We were on the Full Island Tour with Webster’s Tours and our tour group made a 30-minute stop at the Devil’s Hangout Gift Shop operated by Ivan Farrington who usually wears a Devil’s costume. You can buy postcards and stamps at the Devil’s Hangout Gift Shop and there is mailbox at the store to drop them in. The postcards will get the postmark of Hell on it. Hell’s post office is also nearby.
The gift shop is right next to the black limestone formation of Hell. There were two wooden viewing platforms around the limestone formation. One of the platforms had a wooden sculpture of the Devil. There is no admission charge to the attraction.

This was a fun getaway. There was a $250 tour that included this stop. We were able to take the local bus for $2.50 US. My daughter and I were way amused. Highlight... getting a passport stamp from "Hell". Symbolism: Related it to my life this past year... to Hell and Back! I survived. The staff was helpful, welcoming and entertaining. Not much to see, but a fun experience. Take the bus.

We will be getting back from a Stingray City excursion around 2:00 pm in Georgetown. Our ship is there until 6:00. If we take the public bus to Hell, 1) does that allow plenty of time for us to visit there and back? and 2) Will we see Seven Mile Beach from the bus? Would like to see a few sites but have limited time after the excursion. Thank you!
Written 20 November 2022
Sorry, I just saw your question. I quite sure that you've find your way. My answer based on my time there is yes, 4 hours would be enough to see the Hell from Georgetown and back in time of your departure at 6 pm. The only thing is depending on the day you go that buses back from Hell to Georgetown. Buses are less on the weekends moreso lesser on Sundays. You will be able to see the 7 mile beach from the bus but with your time, you may not be able to have stop at the beach and enjouy for long. Although, there were so many public beach accesses to the 7-mile beach. Once again, so sorry for the very very late reply. Cheers

Written 6 September 2017
Oh, please don't spend your time that way! It is just an interesting thing for a quick stop if you are driving by anyhow -- I would go to the beach, take one of the boat tour options, if you don't want to do the water thing go to the Botanic Garden.

does the store accept USD or credit cards for the postcards & stamps?

Hi,
The stores accept U.S. currency & credit cards. All the shops in port do as tourists are a huge part of their economy.
