About
Formerly known as the West Bay Pink House, this is probably the most photographed home in Grand Cayman. The pink-and-white Caymanian cottage was built in 1912 of wattle and daub around an ironwood frame. Cheery Mac Bothwell, who grew up in the house, takes you on tours that present a nostalgic and touching look at life in Grand Cayman before the tourism and banking booms. COST: $5. Mon.-Sat. 8-5.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This beautiful example of a local house in the early 20th century is located at 2419 West Bay Road. It is known locally as the Pink House, due to the pink highlights used on the veranda. The columns and railings are painted pink, with white being the base colour used on the house. The door and window jambs are also highlighted in pink, and the windows are painted sea green. The use of sand instead of a lawn, is unique and makes the house seem like an oasis.

The many palm trees and other plants in the sandy areas were well taken care of and are a great photo op. I visited early in the morning and although I was unable to access the house interior, I got quite a few good photos of the exterior. There are not much attractions in this area, and buses usually stop for a minute so tourists can take photos of the house. The house was constructed in 1912 by Phillip Bothwell. It was built with wood frames and wattle & daub. It has survived hurricanes which is a testament to the quality of it's construction.

After viewing the house, take a walk west and the West Bay Beach can be visited. Diving tours to the Kittiwake submarine can be done from this beach.

Our tour bus driver stopped here on the side of the road to see what he said is one of the the oldest original homes on Grand Cayman. Nicely taken care of. It is a small whitewashed home with pink trim accents. It was ready for Christmas with decorations and a manger display in the front yard.

BOTTOM LINE: This is only a quick stop view from the street for tours. Our guide said that the sand in the front yard to placed to represent "snow" here. Again a cute home but not worth while to travel here only to see this home. Most likely you will pass it on your way to view other island sites. Worth a quite stop visit. MY RATING: 7/10

On our short excursion, the driver stopped for a few minutes, quick drive by, explained the significance and historical background. Seating on the wrong side of vehicle 🚗 for a good picture. If possible would have liked a closer look.

Was not able to go inside when we visited, but our guide made sure we understood the significance of this home. Notice the sand (no grass) yard. Windows allowed cool breezes. Has been preserved quite well over the years.

On our terrible tour, driver pulled to the side of the road to show this oldest house on Cayman islands, no one living there but cute old style home.

Driver took us by it for a 30 sec stop. Didn't offer much history or details. Didn't even get out of the tour bus.

It was interesting the history behind this house, however we didn't get to go in the house. It was just another drive by - by our hot mini van tour guide.

We stopped here on an island routes tour of the island; it was nice to see. There was no cost for admission but then again, we didn't get to go inside. We just got to hear about the traditional Cayman homes a little. Nice history. Not somewhere I'd stop by myself.
