Rheilffordd Llyn Tegid (Bala Lake Railway) offers a delightful 9 mile return journey alongside Bala Lake, through the beautiful Snowdonia National Park. Our 2ft narrow gauge steam trains give excellent views of the lake amid its surrounding pastoral and woodland scenery, and of the nearby mountains, Arenig Fawr, Aran Benllyn and Aran Fawddwy. The railway provides an ideal centrepiece for a day’s visit to Bala Lake. The round trip of 1 hour can be broken at any of the stations to enjoy other activities - a pleasant 10 minutes walk into Bala town for shopping or merely browsing. There is access to the lake shore at Llangower station for swimming, fishing or simply lazing by the waterside.

We visited Bala lake railway during the October half term. It cost £25 for a family of four which we thought was a bit overpriced as you go along the track for 25 minutes then get off at the other end. As there wasn't really anything to see at the other end we came back on the next train. There... More

A taxi is warmer, more comfortable, quicker and cheaper. The conductor reminded us of Blakey without the humour. If you are going to use it, make sure you sit in a windowed carriage. Book Biscuit taxis instead.

Bala Lake Railway is one of North Wales is one of the smaller steam railways in North Wales, but still worth a visit. The journey is lovely, and some of the views are stunning! There is ample free parking at Llanuchllyn, as well as a café and gift shop, however at Bala station there are no facilities and "on road"... More

There is a real lack of views as you travel down to the next station. It felt like 80% was just hedgerows and then an occasional glimpse of the lake.

We walked from our campsite to the far end of the lake which took us about an hour to catch the lakeside train into Bala. There is a small cafe at this interesting station which looks like time has stood still. You can go into the signal box and see how it was manned in time gone by. Once onboard... More

We stayed overnight at Bwch yn Uchaf, adjacent to the Lake Bala Steam Railway so had to take a ride on the Railway on the following morning. Beautifully presented period engines and carriages running alongside Lake Bala to Bala town. Facilities at the Llanuwchllyn terminus are excellent with a cafe, shop etc. The Bala terminus is a walk from the... More
