Rheilffordd Llyn Tegid (Bala Lake Railway) offers a delightful 9 mile return journey alongside Bala Lake, through the beautiful Snowdonia National Park. Our 2ft narrow gauge steam trains give excellent views of the lake amid its surrounding pastoral and woodland scenery, and of the nearby mountains, Arenig Fawr, Aran Benllyn and Aran Fawddwy. The railway provides an ideal centrepiece for a day’s visit to Bala Lake. The round trip of 1 hour can be broken at any of the stations to enjoy other activities - a pleasant 10 minutes walk into Bala town for shopping or merely browsing. There is access to the lake shore at Llangower station for swimming, fishing or simply lazing by the waterside.

At first I thought that this was an expensive way to kill an hour or so with our 2 year old but it was worth every penny (and you get the feeling that they aren't making money out of it and that everything goes back in to the business). If you like steam trains or have a little one that... More

An enjoyable trip although a little pricey for what Is on offer. Being a railways enthusiast it was good fun although there is not a great deal for the layman. The ability to go in the signal box is nice and the cafe appeared to be popular.

Sit back and relax for an hour or so while the little train takes you along the lake side. Nice friendly cafe at the station. Dogs welcome in the cafe and on the train.

We were camping on the other side of the lake and were keen to visit the trains that we could hear across the water. When we turned up there was a gala day on so that kept us amused for an hour while we waited for the next train as we had just missed one! The cuppa in the cafe... More

We stayed on the campsite next to the station so we had the joy of seeing the steam trains going up and down the track daily. If really is picture postcard material. We took a trip on the train. It was a lovely sunny day and this added to the whole thing. None of us are train enthusiasts but we... More

Balla Lake is the biggest in Wales and a great way to see it is by narrow gauge railway. The best place to start you run is at the very pretty Llanuwchllyn Village Station and engine sheds. Beautifully presented station, tearooms and facilities. All the staff were attentive and friendly. The 1 hour return trip could be broken up with stops... More
