This was part of our excursion off our ship, not sure what kind if botanical gardens this was....seemed like a small backyard garden. We saw some pretty flowers but really couldn't see any nice views people talked about. The store made some beautiful dresses and showed you how they paint them and the process. That was interesting. We walked around for about 10 minutes before our tour guide split up our group to go off on another adventure. I absolutely love flowers and gardens and found this was boring and not much to see or learn about here.

We went to Romney Manor to start our Rainforest Nature Hike. The grounds are very pretty. The inside of the building contains a Batik store. The items are nice but expensive. They don’t give you a VAT tax break unless you have your passport with you (I don’t usually carry mine on something like this for security reasons). But not a big deal. The prices are fairly high. There is a free bathroom in the Batik shop. The rest of the bathrooms on the grounds are pay toilets and you have to go elsewhere to buy the bathroom ticket so it’s a big of a hassle. But this building is very picturesque from the outside with lots of photo ops.

We visited Romney Manor and Caribelle Batik as part of a wider island tour. The gardens are absolutely beautiful as is the view from the hill.
The batik is very clever but we felt the merchandise in the store was pretty expensive.
We decided to visit the bar by the viewing platform instead, where we had a couple of ‘tings’ - a lovely carbonated grapefruit drink with a ‘sting’ a miniature bottle of rum - a lovely local custom we understand.

I expected there was going to be a tour of Samuel Jefferson's plantation home here, but no, only part of the foundation remains. Very misleading and disappointing. No exhibits about his life or the history of the place. There are a few pretty plants and an impressive tree, but nothing I would deem a botanical gardens as the area is quite small. There is a nice bar area if you are on your own and have time to just sit. Mostly this is just a store to buy batik. The local artisans do a great job, but it is rather pricey. I realize it is a time consuming process, but still pricey. Not my thing. Just a 15 min. stop. I thought this place was connected to the Wingfield Estate ruins, but they are two separate places and not walking distance. Make sure you stop at the ruins first before proceeding down the road to the manor.

We mostly walked the grounds as we are already familiar with batiking. They had a good demonstration of batiking and a great selection of items made on site.
We walked down to the historic rum distillery. The ruins are impressive. The signage tells the story of the distillery and rum making in that era.

Good trip. We arrived at approximately 10 am and made our way towards the entrance of the manor. After paying the admission fee, we started to walk around the gardens. The gardens were very well maintained and consisted of various colorful flowers and trees. We then made our way inside the building, where there was an employee demonstrating the process of batik creation, which is a textile technique that creates patterns on clothing. After viewing the process, we browsed through their gift shop, however the prices were quite high. There were also restrooms inside the main building as well. We then made our way back outside, where we were able to view the bell tower and roam the grounds.
Tip: I recommend spending 45 minutes here if you truly want to see everything.

The grounds are pretty, and I appreciate the artistry that goes into hand-dying fabrics. Having said that, there really isn’t a lot to see here.
You enter through a small yard, and go into a building. In the first room you’re shown samples and photos of the process.
After that, it’s all gift shop for another 2-3 rooms. You can buy the hand-dyed fabrics and some other trinkets, all of which are terribly overpriced.
Then you leave through the same yard you entered.
Not really worth the effort.

When 4 cruise ships containing over 13,000 crew and visitors land ashore, Caribelle Batik is mobbed with people (as is every other touristy site) and the experience can be frustrating.
The ideal time to visit is when there are no cruise ships in port, when people are not harried and have time to extend a friendly Island greeting. The items of clothing are unique to St. Kitts and make a thoughtful gift from your travels.

Great intro to this art form and reasonable prices for pieces created onsite. Interesting estate with a lot of history. Beautiful gardens and spectacular 400 year old tree.

We took a taxi from the port, for a fixed (reasonable) price. The driver stayed while we visited the Batik studio and shopped there, then toured the grounds with us, pointing out various trees, etc. before taking us back to the ship. Well worth the time and cost!

How much is a taxi ride from the cruise port to batik store?
Written 7 February 2019
We had a hire car when we visited. However based on taxi prices we paid to go to other places I’d guess around 30 bucks

how much is the fee to enter? how long do u generally spend here?
Written 24 January 2018
Admission is just a few bucks. We hired a taxi to take us to Manor & fort. He knew more than the bus tours. He came in the Manor & Fort with us. You do not have to pay admission for your taxi driver .
