We visited this ruin while driving around Nevis one day. Very interesting old mill. Very similiar to the Romney Manor site on St. Kitts, except this one seems to be more intact and a little bigger. Very interesting to just walk around and take everything...More

The last stop on our Funky Monkey tour was rather epic sugar mill ruins that had so much industrial equipment intact. Built in the 18th century when the island’s sugar industry was booming, the New River Plantation still has the sugar cellar where barrels used...More

Seeing all the equipment which had travellled across from London & Derby was truly illuminating. Apparently the development has halted now but the sugar processing is there to see.

Nice location still in the process of being restored and setup. Good to see some history being kept. Could be a lot better once complete. Nice walk. Down to beach side where the old line kiln is.

This is a work-in-progress and the site is still being added to with artifacts from the historic sugar estates that until recently covered large parts of the island. Includes descriptions of the process of making sugar and rum (!), descriptions of the lives of workers...More

This was one of my favorite "finds".....a flash back to the making of sugar! Relics have been carefully placed around the grounds to somewhat preserve them.

New River and Coconut Walk Estates are on the Windward (Atlantic) side of the island. The New River Estate works are just off the main road. The old steam mill works/building is in the process of being restored so there is some work being carried...More

The New River-Coconut Walk Estate is a very cool place to explore. Two different sets of "ruins" to visit- the old windmill driven plantation and the modernized steam-driven (not sure if it was steam or oil). The estate goes from the beach to the main...More

Worth a wander. This place was abandoned in the 1940s and it feels like they just upped and left overnight, so the buildings and machinery are all there, though the wild goats seem to be staking a claim!

Great place to plunk down and explore. Abandoned sugar mill, ruins and rusted mechanical parts, copper kettles and lime kiln. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is - the grounds could use some maintenance, and just having a bit of literature...More
