About
The Owia Salt Pond is located on the North Eastern Coast of St. Vincent in the village of Owia which is home to some of the indigenous people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines - the Black Caribs. The salt water pond is sheltered from the sea by the numerous volcanic boulders which surround it. The two hour drive from Kingstown along the Eastern Coast takes you to this recreation site which occupies a fairly extensive area of well maintained grounds which leads down to the sea where the salt pond is situated. Traditionally, it has been used as a therapeutic bathing pond. Facilities at the park include gazebos, fire pits, restroom and shower. It is the ideal place for swimming or a picnic.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Set against the beauty of the volcanic island and the wild ocean, among the villages of indigenous people, is the owia salt pond -the enclosed tranquility of a dynamic coastal environment. A place of great beauty and magic. Words would forever fail me here. I love this place. Visit Here.

After traveling down a long and steep flight of stairs you will find this little piece of tranquility. The volcanic rocks reach out into the ocean providing a natural barrier for the sea. However small flows of ocean water make there way in providing the ponds within the rock formation. Due to the intense heat, portions of the water evaporate causing a slightly higher salt concentration in the water ponds. Sitting in the ponds you can see either the ocean or the mountains. At the top of the stairs is a great picnic area that provides nice views of the ponds. A very tranquil spot to spend a few hours swimming, and picnicking.

At the top of the island is Owia Salt Pond. Here the Atlantic Ocean comes crashing through some rocks at high tide to create a pool. It's a lovely spot to watch the waves.

A must to soak in the ponds. Water is so clear. Off the beaten path, almost had the place to ourselves. Enjoyed fried chicken and beer from one of the vendors. Absolutely delicious. Well worth the drive. Stunning scenery.

My family and I took a vacation trip and visited the wonderful Island of Saint Vincent. My aunt who currently lives in Saint Vincent suggested that we visit the salt pond in Owia. I looked up the destination on the web and was amazed by the natural phenomenon. As soon as I reached in Owia, seeing the pond up close prompted me to take many pictures. The rocks you see in the image are volcanic rock formations that surround the pool. The pond consists of reef fish and coral formations a that gives pond its color. It is truly a wonderful natural phenomenon that tourists should see while visiting the beautiful Island of Saint Vincent.

The salt pond itself is fun and stimulating. You are 270 degrees surrounded by pounding surf and blowing mist. It is a bit dangerous in the pond and getting to it; and caution should accompany your visit. Getting from the shore to the deep water entails walking across an uneven and VERY SLIPPERY and sharp in places partially submerged surface. We spent two hours in the pool being knocked about by water surging over the barrier rocks, A local man brought his six year old into the pool to practice swimming. Just before the entrance to the pool, there are food kiosks. The drive out the windward side is spectacular
