You Haven't Seen the Grenadines Unless You've Been on Ile Mopion!
Sep 2017
A "Must Do" while sailing in the Grenadines! ... Bribe your Captain to take you there! ... the best Five-Star Hotels & Exquisite Dining & Bars in the Caribbean are on Mopion ... also tales that pirates buried their treasures there!

How is this even possible

Took a quick trip to Mopian- it's amazing how clear and shallow the water is out in the middle of the sea. The small umbrella in the sand is decorated and adorable.

This gorgeous sandbar is post card ready! We ended up here in the late afternoon due to some boat problems in Clifton, Union but we made the most of it. Instead of diving on the north side which is supposed to be spectacular, due to lack of time we grabbed our snorkel gear and circumvented the tiny island. There were thousands of tiny little fish that memorized us as they whizzed by and we even spotted a shark in the shallows. As we continued on the current picked us so we had to be mindful of the reef and headed back to same entry point that we started. For those that cannot anchor near Mopion, it is possible to take your dinghy from the Petit St. Vincent but you will get wet. There is also a dive shop on Petit St. Vincent that will take you diving north of the reef to see all the sharks.

My No1 in the Grenadines
Apr 2016
This place is really really unique..... A couples dream. It is so small., it should be referred to as a Sandbank as opposed to an island. Apparently the size varies from hour to hour, depending on the tide. When we visited it was a bit on the large side a whopping 75 yards in diameter. Of course we walked from end to end without breaking into a sweat. We even managed to have a quick drink., and briefly sat under the rustic thatched umbrella. A lot of the Grenadines has amazing sand and this in my opinion was a notch above the rest., even the water was nice and calm. What was the icing on the cake for us is that we can actually say that this is the first time in our life we were the THE ONLY PEOPLE in the world to be on an island (only for an hour or so though).

Sandpit that looks like a New Yorker Cartoon

Diving the reef was lovely, but the real draw of Mopian is the tiny little sandpit with a thatched umbrella on it. If you are sailing in the areas it;s worth a stop (be careful anchoring nearby) and a dingy trip into the the "island". Don't forget your camera.
