Wonderful experience in a nature reserve.
This was our first experience at Asa Wright and it left a huge impression on us. The cost is very good, they support nearby communities for employment and food sourcing. Hadco experiences has set a new standard for hospitality in the island. It would be tough for the competition to beat them in my opinion. This place is so rich in history, it pleases me immensely to know it will continue on for other generations to enjoy. The tour guides were most helpful in providing information on the creation of what is known today as the Asa Wright nature reserve. Karen, Rachael and staff; you all are heroes. The mere fact Hadco has offered employment to those in the nearby communities, provided training and salaries, that speaks volumes about their corporate culture and leadership.
Dear Michael, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We are delighted to hear that your first visit at Hadco Experiences at Asa Wright Nature Centre was a memorable one, and that your time in nature left such an impact on you. The local communities are dear to our hearts, and we take pride in working along side them to grow and develop the authentic side of Trinidad. There's a lot to discover in these forested hillsides and we are excited to share it with the world. We appreciate the mentions you made of our team members and will be sure to share your kind words with them. It was truly a pleasure to be of service, and we look forward to welcoming you soon again. Kind regards, Hadco Experiences Team

A peaceful place immersed in nature with efficient, welcoming staff.
The service from all the staff was impeccable, including the friendly gardener who was passing by in the car park. The lemon scented cool towels on arrival were a hit. Our guide Kareem was entertaining with his jokes and he was able to provide answers to all our questions. The wrap around verandah provided spectacular views without electricity & telephone wires. There were lots of ceiling fans that helped to keep the area comfortable. The lodge itself is spotless and the decor blends in with the building's era. The locally inspired lunch was absolutely delicious. We met Michael Phillips, one of the artists whose paintings are displayed at the Centre, and he played the guitar & sang for me as it was my birthday. The cool natural pool was a sight to see. It was a wonderful way to spend the day!
Hi Teresa! Thank you for taking the time to leave a wonderful review on Trip Advisor! We are thrilled that you chose to celebrate your birthday with us, and we are delighted to have been part of your special day. Your kind words mean a lot to us, and we hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you again in the future. Warmest regards, Hadco Experiences Team.

    Great place for hummers
This place was amazing! I went with 3 friends to do some bird watching and we were not disappointed. Many hummingbirds were seen although we missed 2 species that we were hoping to see . That was our fault tho for not coming at the right time of year. But the wattled bell bird sitting in a tree calling more than made up for the 2 hummers we missed. Elizabeth was our guide and she was so helpful and friendly on our hike and got us back to the lodge before the heavens opened up! We booked in for lunch and afternoon tea and both were delicious and plentiful. The kitchen did their best to accommodate a gluten free guest. Hiking sticks and umbrellas are provided as well as tours of a room should you choose to stay for a few days. The drive up was a little scary but then I live in flat farm country. Many thanks to the lovely staff for making our day visit a truly fabulous experience.
HI 617jeank, We are delighted to hear that you had such a great experience with us despite the heavens opening up on you! We are sorry to hear that you missed two species of the hummingbirds that you hoped to see, but we are glad that the bellbird made up for them. We sincerely appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback with us, and we appreciate your thoughtful comments. We look forward to welcoming you again in the future, and hopefully the two species of hummingbirds you hoped to see will be out and about. Kind regards, Hadco Experiences Team

    The heavenly sound of Peace
An absolutely idyllic nature retreat. After being warmly greeted by the staff, the first thing you notice is the peaceful sound of …… Quiet. Just the birds and the breeze blowing through the trees. Heaven! Lunch and afternoon tea are included in a Day Pass and the food was delicious and plentiful. There are refreshments handy all day, too. Our tour guide, Mukesh, has been involved with Asa Wright for decades and his knowledge of the flora and fauna, coupled with his obvious love of teaching, made the tour extremely pleasant and so interesting. The only downside is the access road. Honestly, I do not know what can be done to improve it but it’s not for the faint-hearted driver. There are taxi and mini bus operators though that I’m sure one can hire. If you are seeking beauty and serenity, visit the Asa Wright Nature Centre. You won’t be disappointed.

My husband and I stayed for 1 night after Christmas at this beautiful Center.
Pros; Excellent service - the staff - friendly, efficient, aim to please
Facilities - high end, well done, elegant. The rooms are exactly as seen in the photos. The bed is very comfortable and the bathroom is well appointed. The aesthetic of the rooms is minimalistic. I gather that that is intentional as the attraction is all outside. It would have been nice to have a private patio or verandah on which to sit and enjoy the surroundings especially as during the day the Center gets very busy with day visitors.
Food - simple, clean and tasty. Breakfast had the usual fare but there wasn't any fruit. All meals are served buffet style and the portions at lunch and dinner were very small. On the last day a group of 5 friends joined. We all agreed that the portions served were very small and we would have liked to go for seconds but we did not feel comfortable to do so. It was not welcoming at the buffet table.
Tea was basic fare.

Cons - the day gets very busy with day visitors. Our guide left us half way through the trail to go and start another tour.
The common area ( mainly the verandah) is very small and can get overrun with the day visitors.

On our 1st afternoon there was a group with about 8 children and they were loud and wild. Other guests commented on how loud they were. It would be great if there could be strict guidelines on the maintaining of the peace and serenity of the Center and the staff should do their best to see that the guidelines are adhered to.

Also, someone in our party got bitten by a scorpion. The guide and staff were very concerned and sympathetic but no first aid was offered and the nearest hospital is at least 30 minutes away.

From the time we arrived, until we left, the service was phenomenal!! My sister n family were visiting from Canada, so we made it a family trip on recommendation from Zaria. The security that permitted us onto the compound was all smiles n welcoming…we were then met at the carpark by Jevon, who was extremely pleasant n helpful. He assisted us with our possessions (we had a 3yo n toddler) down to the entrance, explaining things along the way. A warm n huge welcome by duty manager, Jacqueline, GM Warren n the lovely staff as we were offered juices n cold towels!! I must say, the cold towels were just what we needed!! Our tour guide, Jeremy was informative, easy going n he was so patient with us, as a group of 10 adults n 2 kids could get a bit overwhelming at times 😬 The property is AMAZING!! The buildings we saw are beautiful…was a pleasure to see the original architecture has been maintained n upgraded 😍 There was nothing we could want for! Everyone was so gracious…always checking on us, n the other guests, to ensure we were comfortable. The lunch n tea…delicious 🤤 n well presented! We were quite surprised that the birds are making their way back to Asa Wright en masse, after the shutdown, so that was a wonderful experience. The Clearwater pool was a positive experience in itself! I don’t want to give away all the details of this incredible trip, but I must say, it’s HIGHLY recommended…especially if one enjoys nature 🥰 Would definitely LOVE to do an overnight in future!!! GREAT JOB to the facilitators n staff of Hadco Experiences 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

The whole day we spent there was fantastic, from the welcome drink and cold towel to the afternoon tea. We went for the day, had a guided tour which was informative and we saw a wide variety of plants and animals.
Lunch was excellent.
But, most of all, the staff were so warm, friendly and helpful.
This was our third visit and the recent makeover is impressive.
I loved that we were also able to swim in a natural pool.
I recommend a visit and think that things will only get better.

We have enjoyed the hospitality and relaxation of visiting Asa Wright Nature Centre numerous times since 2007. Whenever in Trinidad, we make time for a visit. Overnight stays are highly recommended and birding at all times of the year highly rewarding.

Jesse James of Members Only Maxi Taxi Services, has been our go to man, to organise these tours and visits.

Not to be missed.

We visited several times during our stay in Trinidad, and everytime it was wonderful. The drive is pretty challenging, but definitely worth it. The view from the terrace is beautiful and the hummingbirds all around you, even right next to your face, is just magical! Also the other birds and animals are so beautiful and interesting! We took the tour 3 times, as it is always nice and you always see something else. We also had lunch 2 times, and the food is delicious. A must during your stay in T&T!

It was recommended to me that I visit the Asa Wright Nature Centre (AWNC) when I was planning my trip to Trinidad and Tobago. When there was a possibility that I may miss it due to timeframes, my tour guide for Trinidad (“Sweet” Nick of Sensational Tours and Transport – look them up!) told me that I simply had to go. I’m very glad that I did.

The AWNC was established in 1967 and is owned by a not-for-profit trust. The main site was originally a plantation for cocoa, coffee and various citrus plants, it became one of the most sought-after birdwatching locations in the Caribbean.
The winding drive from the North is beautiful as it meanders through the rainforest. The drive South and along the highway is much faster but less picturesque.

The former Spring Hill Estate building was built in 1906, and has had a long history of owners and incarnations before Asa Wright and her husband purchased the plantation after World War II.

The AWNC requires advanced reservations according to their website. We notified them that we were attempting to make the afternoon guided walk, but we actually ended up missing it. The guided walks happen twice a day at 10:30 and 13:30 with a highly educated birdwatching staff member. We arrived at 13:50 and after a coffee and some discussion, Nick took us on the tour himself. We still parted with TTD120 each for access. He knew the history of the site etc. We met the guided tour (with only one person) on their return further down the hill from the main building, and joined as we spotted White-bearded Manakins frolicking.

The guide was a huge help in pointing out the birds, and I can only imagine the whole tour to be far more eye-opening. I can’t stress the need for a lens/scope/binoculars though, like any birdwatching event.

The main building has a gift shop and a museum. Take your time admiring the old photos from along the hallways. There’s lunch available, and a bar for afternoon drinks.

We were unable to explore the whole site, due to times, but the tour was enjoyable regardless. We then returned to the main building and stood on the deck watching the hummingbirds and Bananaquits. Much like many locations in Tobago, the hummingbirds were out in force and we spent an extended time watching them feed. Thankfully for my girlfriend, there is a spotting scope on the deck for anyone to use. We witnessed Crested Oropendolas come in to roost and even saw a hawk circling.

The AWNC is a birdwatcher’s dream. It is possible to stay there and explore, and I did consider that when planning my trip. The staff are friendly and clearly passionate about their centre.
