Authentic - a dreadful term, but this really is what I would like the Caribbean to be: A gorgeous beach, amazing sea life just below the surface, a sustainable subsistence fishing "industry", locals running most of the tourism establishments, no tourism infrastructure ruining it for the local population. So basically, seen from the ocean, it's: corals and sea life, then... More

This beach is really nice. I love to go to this beach and castara in general. The only problem I have is the monstrosity that is being built up directly as u drive in the main beach facility. That's awful. When u pass that everything g else is good. I also love to go to heavenly bay just nearby. That's... More

The day we arrived, Sting rays were feeding on the little dead fish and that had come in with the fishermen. Quite a sight per se! Be informed that they do not attack, but will defend themselves. That said, all you need to do is ensure you don't walk on them by splashing a bit when you go into the... More

We went to Castara as a day trip with our daughter and my fiance's little sister. The view from the road above was so beautiful I was amazed! When we drove to the beach however, it was deserted. There was about 8 other tourists on the beach besides ourselves, which was shocking for being so nice! We did enjoy having... More

The wide bay of Castara hosts a number of small fishing boats, and a basic raft anchored just off the sand to the left ( from the sea ). We have snorkelled directly off the left hand beach, but the best snorkelling is in Emerald Bay, to the left of Castara Bay entrance. Buoys are available to tie up to,... More

Every time I visit Tobago, I have to go to Castara! The community and beach there are amazing. On this last trip, we did a bit of snorkeling on the far north end of the beach and saw a lot of interesting marine life. Also, go early on a Wednesday or Saturday to place an order for fresh bread and... More

If you visit Castara don't just stay on the beach, lovely as it is. Follow the signs or ask for directions to the waterfall. It's magical!

If you are a person who love quiet, simple and not touristy place (like close to a hotel that is all inclusive), this is the right place to spend your time. Only thing is a bit far location from the airport (about one hour drive) and very country, so inconvenient in many ways.

Castara is a beautiful little town/community – a perfect place to hang your hat for a week – or as long as you have – when you come to Tobago. Quiet and local, but not remote – the bay is incredibly scenic and the beach generally very peaceful and not terribly crowded. However, there are shops, bars and restaurants within... More
